This is incorrect, at least with the latest firmware revision (...028). I mapped a few ranges of ports to a few different internal ips yesterday and it all worked as expected. Using UPNP, programs also open ports when they need to.
Not that it matters much to me as I'm only getting ~600kbit throughput on my supposed 6mbit line!
