You should definetly be getting better results than that. If you havn't already done so, I would say that the first thing to do is contact Smart support and report the issue so that a line check is done.

Occasionally I have problems with the jack plug on my telephone socket making a bad connection, it might be worth a try checking all your cables and connections.

Sorry that's as much as I can suggest, some of the other members might be able to give more technical help.
