That may be true if you are wanting to look at ADSL but don't forget large parts of the country get served by cable as I do.

If I go ADSL the BT line tester says I can get up to 6meg service. I have been on NTL cable since 2001 or so.

Started at 512k then 1meg, then 2meg, 3meg and now 10 meg. In five years I have had 4 days of down time when lightning struck the class 5 switch out in the street.
