I've had the pleasure of using netsource (adsl) and then the displeasure of
IBB.
For the entire of last year I had serious packet loss, which resulted in big echoing when using voip. I had been using it successfully with the 64k codecs on the 2mbit/128k dsl connection - because of never loosing a packet - but on
IBB even the 7k codec was bad.
The reason for
IBB were clear -> no line rental which meant practically free phone use - line rental is €25 remember - as I pay only €15 for all IRL & UK calls with blueface (I recommend them by the way, great service).
Unfortunately
IBB were unable to resolve the issue until this month - almost a full year with them. The solution was simple : move me from the kilsaran transmitter/receiver to the _closer_ one in Superquinn (Lucan).
The download is now stable and I get (so far) no packet loss - which means good voip. The upload is still a bit slow - under 1mb but thats acceptable as I mostly download anyway. The speed still goes up and down - up to 3MBit one day but I am not logging any more calls unless the packet loss gremlins come back.
I'm giving them another chance.
