Let's wait till Badcock and Brown the Australian firm take over eircom.. I am an aussie and I know that in Oz I can get ADSL2+ which is 24Mb down 1Mb Up. Again dependant on the distance and qualiy of copper from the exchange.
Telstra the incumbant there (like eircom) have been forced to let other operators in the exchanges as the Local Loop unbundling has worked over there through goverment intervention. Bertie will let eircom get away with what they want. when Badcock and Brown come in I can see changes. Smart telecom had the idea installing there own equipment in exchanges but got head butted by Eircom not allowing them in to most they wanted.
As for Ethernet - I can't see on a wholesale level how 50Mb to your door can come at under €60 per month - this must be a 50Mb connection but I would be supprise how over contended this is. At the end of the day the ISP need to make revenue from what he buys wholesale compared to the retail revenue.
By the way anyone got €60 million to buy Irish broadband which is what they are asking? I would give them €100 for the equipment. |
