I have the same problem, I also had a problem with my emails, there were some email addresses that I could no longet send to, most of them ended in (.com) but some others as well, so I had to fine another email server to use rather than mail1.eircom.net. I use mail.ambamail.com as my outgoing server now. I had no problems with recieving emails using the eircom setting in the pop settings. I also used for a while a free SMPT server that you install on the computer without any problems, exept that it used to take a fair bit longer for my emails to go out.
