Mullins,
I had spoken to one of the engineers conducting the tests and was informed that the roll out would happen later this year, (from Dunmurry Hill, not too sure if that name is right). But subsequent conversations with equipment providers have told me that the first release of the Wimax standard was very disappointing, with ranges much shorter than expected. Wimax was supposed to be a medium to long range service, but it seems to have its problems, so the roll out was put back.
Eircom are the only company given a Wimax licence, which is illiegal under European Anti-competition legislation which states: (b) limit or control production, markets, technical development, or investment;
Seeing that Eircom have wasted the opportunity it's up to other WISPs to put the boot in to ComReg and maybe things will finally get moving on it.
Well done to Rick and Callidus for sorting out East Kildare! |
