My ISP is BT Ireland and the connection speed is 3Mbps down and 384kbps up. About 2WIRE modem, they are using Advanced ADSL Modem Technology. Just check this page.
2Wire.com: Advanced Modem. As per my experience I think they are right. I bought the 2WIRE from USA in my last visit. This type is not available in Europe. Try to get one from USA.
