clearwire has gota be the worse isp in carlow, sorry i had to start off that way, because the only provide a black reciever that goes in ur house and is expected to reach the masts up on Killeshin hill in carlow, unlike all the other wireless isp's in carlow clearwire do not have a fixed wireless setup... also stay clear of tesco's in the fairgreen haha they follow u around begging u to signup, poor fecks have to get a certain amount of sales a day to make a weekly wage, ;) but apart from the service is(sucks) avoid clearwire, they cusomer services is crap they do not ring back or reply to emails, support calls is a waste of time...and when it comes to contracts ur signed up for 1year not sure if its changed but u can update me on that, i was with them for 6months!! and had crap speeds, so i rang to complain and after many phone calls i did cancel with them without paying any cancelation fees, so i hear its changed now so best avoid them.

eh i'm with them in Carlow now after having a narrow escape from 3irl and so far no problems at all! speeds are what they advertised like its "up to" 1mb and their contention rate only 10:1 so its even better than the 3g providers who all have 48:1. have read lots of complaints and disparaging comments about clearwire in this forum and to be honest ppl need to keep their eyes open when signing contracts! if they say 1mb speed thats the best you'll never get cos with contention other ppl will be sharing that speed with you!

just a quick update on "clearwire" one month on from signing up,no major problems so far! delighted with the speed like its never gonna download a song or movie in seconds but its doing exactly as advertised and so far has only been 3 times when speeds dropped off for at most two hours due to weather conditions.

grrr another update on CRAPWIRE e-mailed them several times over last few weeks regarding a 1cent overcharge(its the principle really and 12cent/year) and download and upload speeds dropping off whenever i download any file over 1mb! the dl starts off great but within 10seconds its just pitifull and pathitic resting at approx 30kbps or less for the duration meaning over two hours for 100mb file rang them today and told them was running out of credit but no call=back since i was cut off! no service and also no customer care!

At the end of the day you sign a contract, you have a 7 day cooling off period to decide if it is right for you. If the service is crap you should cancel it then, I hear Clearwire even extend it to two weeks in most cases even though they actually do not have to.

If you break a contract with Eircom for a phone line, they will charge you a cancellation fee, if you break a bill pay contract with O2 they will charge you a cancellation fee etc.

do you Work for clearwire adsell? lol the speeds were brilliant for the 1st two months with service outages of about 3hours in total which i think is excellent but recently the speeds have been dropping and really shows when downloading large files say 30mb+ speed starts great but after ten seconds its real CRAPWIRE around 30-50kbps lol as i said already PATHETIC

I had clearwire too and for the first 6 weeks or so the service was excellent and speeds were round about what was advertised. Then all of a sudden WALLOP and I was getting about 5% of the advertised and that was only if I was able to get connected at all.

I cancelled and there were no charges but maybe I was lucky??

Seems to me that they give preference on the mast to a new customer and then after a few months move them back with the rest of us mugs. That gives an initial false impression of their service quality and is surely illegal especially if you consider you only have a few weeks cooling off period after signing on the dotted line??

well with such a good contention ratio 10:1 (its one of the lowest available) my download speeds should be good most of the time and by good i really mean around 80% of advertised speeds.
but this sadly drops at weekends and evenings to nothing/no service!
it is becoming obvious that they have problems with oversubscription in this area but they cant admit this or customers will be eligible to leave without penalty.

p.s. i usually have good speeds using clearwire but for the €30 a month i expect good all the time

it is taking around ten minutes to do that speedtest that clearwire give for customers to check their speed and it gives 30-90mbps bursts which hides the usual speed of 100-200kbps

Default Clearwire Cancelling

well its been a while and finally after doing the same trouble-shooting 3times got email from cancellations@clearwire so they are sending a courier for the modem thing tomorrow and will discuss a part-refund for the last two months after that!

i am also looking for a refund of the €39 set-up fee as i have not been getting the advertised speeds!! even when my speeds are up around 1mbps the speed when downloading files shows only a fraction of that! 20-200kbps,

it starts off very fast but drops off to nothing within 2-5seconds! i always thought your speed should INCREASE when downloading files?

anyway will keep ye posted on how i get on with a refund from these charlatans haha they really are so american right down to the "HAVE A NICE DAY" IF ONLY IT WAS GENUINE!

got that irish broadband ripwave plus yesterday but its going back tomorrow as cant get good signal and their cc were great no nonsense or trying to stall just said "i can see you dont have good signal so bring it back to shop" going to try that "3"data modem next, had one before in middle of town but it was awful but might be better out around Eire Og? hated giving back clearwire as the service was excellent for about 2 months but then fell through the floor!! if only they could keep it up lol

another thing i found very odd is that i have recently asked clearwire for their contention ratio which they are obliged to give yet they have so far failed to give it after 6 requests!

Exclamation

like i said in my 1st topic- clearwire was 1 of my 1st isp's and my worse ever- it was great the 1st time- because i never had broadband- but then it just went down hill- sent it back after 6months never paid a cent- they allowed my contract to be canceled due to crap services. ur best option m8 is to get in digiweb - go and look at here-> metro-business-broadband.asp
its been good so far- also not bad for gaming- i always get 900kb upload. 3mb min on download. im on the Metro Business 4 Package.
