Default North Wexford & Regional Broadband by wireless

Been reading the various experiences of you folk with good and dodgy wireless connections and thought I'd add my tuppence worth...

After waiting for over 6 years for any company to arrive and provide wireless in my area about 10 miles south of Gorey because the Eircom exchange about a 1/4 mile away was not enabled, Regional Broadband arrived. I've been hooked up with their basic package (500k up & 1M down) since early July and while there has been a problem with upload speeds, it's been pretty reliable. The few glitches that cropped up were very quickly sorted.

The support guys are excellent and have kept me updated with their efforts to improve the upload speed and I am a very satisfied customer! I would add that even at their lowest the speeds are considerably faster than my old dial-up connection and the overall 'running' cost is considerably cheaper than dial-up, at less than a 1/4.

Friday 21st Sept - Stop Press News: As their Support had adised me, the company carried out upgrade/improvement works over the past weekend and as of Monday the 17th of September, my average upload speed is over 500k (what I paid for) while download is over 600k. I am happy with that!

10 Miles south of Gorey? Is that near Ballycanew? What sort of price are you paying? Do you know if they're licensed?

Hi Horizonuser,
I'm a bit further south than that, nearer Ballyedmond. Their basic package, 500k up and 1M down costs €34.99/month plus once off installation of €149.99.

Check out their website at: Regional Broadband for details of all their packages.

I know they have fairly good coverage from Gorey to Kilmuckridge (provided there's no trees or hills in the way) and they advertise a low contention ratio.

Hello gerry260457 in Kilcoole,
Just interested.... did their Support give you any reason why your speeds were slow? They tell me they don't normally have contention problems. While my service is usually within 80-90% of the advertised speeds, there are occasional 'off' days. But its back up to speed very quickly. On the other hand, I often get speeds well in excess of what I signed up for.

Peaks and troughs not withstanding, and not being a gamer or gambler, although I do a lot of online research, I'm just content I don't have to suffer the 3 to 5 kps I used to get with the old dialup connection and I no longer have to do my research and downloads off-peak because of the cost.

Hi People, I have recently got broadband from omnitel --> broadband, irish broadband, wireless broadband, wireless internet, broadband ireland, broadband internet, satellite broadband, dsl broadband, business broadband, soho broadband - Welcome

It is a wireless service, I am on 30:1 contention, I play alot of online gaming and so far it has not been up to standard, my last test on the connection resulted in the following --> upload 59.1 kbps, download 121 kbps this is for what is supposed to be a 1mb connection. Has anyone else had this issue?

If its sat mate, then the latency will be terrible for gaming (well maybe ok for RTS and WOW but no use for games like Battlefield games or Call of duty etc). Tried them before on a mates connection, no use at all.
