I recently ordered broadband from chorus. Im in cork city centre and upon reading some of the comments here I was uncertain.

I now have the service about 2 weeks, maybe a little less... I do have a few things to say about it.

First off, they arrived here to install it and the tv cable service. The tv worked fine but the guy said that the signal quality was too poor and that the BB probably wouldnt work. he did some investigating and told me that the 'tap' on the side of the building was being split at least twice on each port and that was the reason for the poor signal quality.. he did however try to install the BB and said to give it an hour and went on his way, told me to tell him if it doesnt work etc.

it didnt and I was wondering if I had now been left with a service that I wasnt going to get and would end up having to hassle them for weeks to fix..

After telling the installation guy that it didnt work, the next day I get a phone call while in work (a saturday) saying that he was on to the networking guys and to check again when i went home. Sure enough and to my amazment it was working.

a pleasant suprise.

now for the actually quality of the BB... sometimes its very fast, ive downloaded at 620KB/sec etc... however between the hours of say 7pm -12am the service slows down massively and the ping drops off from to 150-300ms (to chorus.ie)... if you're a game player like me then you'll be upset by this , however outside those times you are likely to get 40-50 ms most of the time to many a day of defeat or counterstrike server so i have yet to pull my hair out.

If it wasnt for the quick installation of the service and repair of the problems i might be a little unhappy however this does stand for a lot in my book so I am quite happy overall.

Just had Fibre Optic Cable laid here and BB service is really motoring. 15mb is the norm for me (d/l 4.3gig file in 25 minutes).Glad I stuck with them.
