How bad is the routing?
What is the upload speed?

I remember them promising broadband in the Cork area in 2000-2001, but nothing ever came of it.

Default chorus? are you MAD?

As im sure many of you reading this are aware Chorus are ... to put it politly pooop.
And I dont just mean that just for the internet service but also their TV service ( if you can even call it a service) Im in cork and know plenty of people using their TV service which is always 100% guaranteed to cut out for a few hours at LEAST twice a week. even right now chorus has been down most of the last 2 days as usual per month
I dont use their internet service but since it runs over the same network I can assume the same occurs.
From reading through these forums I see 10000s of people suffering at the hands of companys such as this and paying money through their noses for so called "service". Perhaps its time something is done about it

jagnet - My mother uses Chorus in Cork for her tv "service" and it is far from satisfactory. There are two reasons why she hasn't moved:
- UTV
- Channel 4

Just get a relative in the UK or NI to order a FTV card from www.freesatfromsky.com and then have them post it over to you, pop it in your digibox and you get ITV 1 and 2, Channel 4 and Channel 5 for free. And it doens't affect any sub cards you have.

No, you take out your subscription viewing card, and insert the FTV card. The box will then reload the EPG and download listings for about a minute and then you get ITV, Ch4 etc. When you are finished with FTV channels, simply swap back.

That sounds overly complicated and would mean getting up off the couch

On a more serious note, I would see that causing problems as they coudn't get my phoneline to sync when they installed the box originally, so they had to configure it "offsite"

You don't need the phoneline - in fact, you should keep it disconnected at all times you use a FTV card. As for getting up off the couch, can't help you there!

It might as well be disconnected

It's fine most of the time, as I have all the channels that I want. but if I wanted to watch anything on PPV I would have to order it over the phone

I think Ill try to revive this little thread.
There are a few cobwebs about.

I actually use Clearwire Broadband myself but my brother lives with me and he
uses Chorus. The odd time I switch over to his to check it out, or he might
switch over to mine if Chorus goes on the blink. It does that the odd time but
not for very long. Maybe ten minutes. Once a week. You could live with that.
Its a 1MB line, get about 850 to 900kb/s. Again thats quite acceptable.

Anyway we got a letter in the post from them the other day and theyre upping
the line to 1.5MB/s, with NO EXTRA COST. Thats quite rare I would be thinking.

Its goin up to the 1.5 on Thursday this week. Ill leave a post here showing how
much extra bandwidth I actually get.

UTV is available for free on sky digital. You can add it in
the Services/Add Channels option. You just need to enter
the correct frequency. I have it if you want it. The only reason
I added it is because RTE dont show the Grand Prix anymore.

Default Using Chorus in Thurles

Folks,

I'm using Chorus in Thurles and it works grand. I've had maybe 3 outages in the last 2 years.

I've called their tech support and they're adequate.
Download is 1.5 and upload is around 256kbps.
€35 per month. I didn't take their TV service.
I'm happy enough.

Asta

Thumbs up Chorus

As one who was with Chorus Broadband from the very beginning I think that they are going from strength to strength.
My relations with the previous owners of the Cable Network here in Killkenny were so soured that I threatened Court Action if they did not remove all their rubbish from my property
When Chorus bought them out and upgraded the cable I signed for Broadband only. The guy who installed it was a real expert and I got a neat functional connection.
Recently I upgraded to 3Mb option and d/l started to freeze. I thought it was my PC which was at fault but to my surprise got a phone call from them saying my old modem was knackered and they were replacing it. Now I am getting excellent speeds and no more freezes.
I am not saying they are perfect but they seem to be getting their act together.
Rgds/Mike
