Default Digiweb here I come...once i get my own place that is

I too would dig a digi web connection but I'm living in rented accomodation, am I correct in thinking the radio modem needs to be installed outside somewhere and possibly with an antenna? I had to get clearwire as it was the only thing that wouldn't change the apartment in anyway , its perfectly fine for web browsing and lately even battlefield2, but voice over IP and some other games are all over the place, I sometimes get my ping down to 50 000 in act of war which is just not helping much. I also don't like the fact that they cap you without an email warning and you can't see how much data you have used, I download loads of HD videos which are pretty chunky in size, by link ofcourse because torrents are blocked (hdclips.net). If you have no other option Clearwire it is, but if you do, don't be a muppet.

im with eircom now, im NOT at all happy with that, but as usual in ireland you always end up giving money to the same arseholes

i'll be switching elsewhere as soon as my contract runs out

The guy who turned up to "set it up" was a decent fella and he told me I could get p2p working. This is not the case for me at all. No more emule or soulseek. I'm pretty annoyed to be honest but reckon I'll just leg it on them the fookers!

About contracts - just cancel the direct debit with your bank and if they want to come after you let them. In this day and age being tied to a contract is a load of nonsense. Are they really going to track each customer down for €100. Doubt it. Just ask Vodafone about me. Fat chance they'll see that cash!
Vodafone, sorri but you sir are an idiot!

I work for a phone company the fact is NO company chasses people for money they sell it to a dept collection agency like legal and trade or intrium justia. if that happens your name is placed on the bad deptors list for 5 years its there legal right to! I recommend you try get a bank over draft or a loan and you'll see you WILL be denied. So think you got away with it guess again you don't even have to be notified ur on the bad depts list!

sorri recommending people to do this is stupid!!

Default Clearwire Block Video/Audio Communication

Having used them for 9 months I gave up, returned the modem and stopped the payments. They started pretty good, but fairly soon they blocked most forms of SIP protocol, which is necessary for video and audio chatting, such as with Apple iChat, AOL video. Further, they heavily downgraded the speed for Skype connections, so even though Skype video is not blocked, it is quite useless.

I've spent hours and perhaps 20 phonecalls over the period of 9 months trying to fix it, always being told "it will be in the next 2 weeks" or "we will call you". Needless to say, not.

However, if you are a basic web user, only www and email, no gaming, no VOIP, no video-audio, no P2P and no VPN connections to office, Clearwire may be pretty good.

R.

Not pretty good when your download speed is 110 and upload speed 102.

And don't get me started on SkypeOut...

Default Not so good in Drogheda!

Just signed up with C/Wire 2 weeks ago. Brilliant sales, v fast set up.. All going well except for speed. Am on the initial 2Mbit package but have not yet had speeds above 1Mbit. Dreadful in the evenings, had speeds down to 5kbit one evening last week. Got in touch with sales but was told that after 7 days it becomes a tech. problem. Will try them tomorrow but having read a few posts expect to be fobbed off. If no joy then I will have to cancel but I do not intend paying cancelation fee. Had a good chat with a friend who works for eircom. She said the best thing would be to report them to Comreg. With all the jostling for position in the market it appears that providers do not want to fall foul of them.

The only problem is there are no other providers in my area. Had Digiweb around but they couldn't get a signal. Looks like it will be back to dial-up because i am not paying for a non-existent "broadband" connection

How did anyone get out of the "contract"???? Do you just tell Clearwire to fekk off and stop the payments?

Speaking of payments, anyone else having their credit card debited when you do not remember ticking a box saying take the monthly payment from there??

As far as I can remember I specifically did NOT tick the box.

Ha ha ha! I work for the bank you fool and almost everyday mortgages are given out to people who were once bad debtors or who owe ESB £150 etc.
Banks want to make money and couldn't give a rats as long as they can screw you for interest while you pay off over forty years. I recently got an overdraft and a credit card from a different bank to my own. Where does this leave your theory? Stubbs gazette - the publication you forgot to mention - is for companies not individuals....

We're a bit wrapped up in our job now aren't we - believing all the hype.

PS I'm an idiot who can spell - sorry, chasing, debt, debtors, Instrum Justitia, it's their, oh God I give up.........go back and read more Vodafone policy documents and don't ever leave your sense of disbelief at the door or your world will fall apart

Default Clearwire all over the shop

Hey, Im in Rathmines and I have to say the majority of the time my Bband connection is only running 40%-50% of the advertised 1.5Mbps its pretty bad. I would luv to just have stuck with a nice Eircom line rather than this...thing

I agree on the convenience bit tho, they will deliver to you tomorrow but thats about as good as it gets! I work quite a bit from home, so much of my time is spent on Skype and LiveMeetings, and i cant tell you how many times ill have to just pickup my mobile and dial into a very expensive meeting number. Unreliable

Default only blueface will work...

Good luck for getting VOIP to work, I have found only one VOIP provider works and even Clearwire tech admits this, that blueface works with the G971 or something codec. All other VOIP products are just not going to work properly. I believe the blue protocol/codec is suited to Clearwire, or who knows, maybe they own blueface, haha. In any event, I use Blueface now on Clearwire without any hassle at all, I had to drop skype as it never worked for more than a minute and voip buster was intermittent. What I find odd about the service is I can even play some games with 50/60ms pings, but other ones just wont work at all. They have blocked a lot of p2p UDP ports so that could affect network applications, I've also only ever had 2MBPS after 1am, which means the line is over subscribed...the rest of the time I'd say it's between 500-800KBPS. But after all that whingeing, Eircom would have taken 4 - 12 weeks just to install my phone line which was quite frankly shocking, on top of that 24 quid rent for a phone line which is a rip off! Clearwire isn't great but it's better than nothing, DO NOT EXPECT DSL LIKE SPEED/LATENCY.

I have the Clearwire 1mb package for a year now and I'm very happy.....to be coming to the end of my contract so I can bin them where they belong. It's all about contention ratio and how many people are actually using the service in your locality at the time. My service is basically unusable between the hours of 6 and 9pm. If you're a night owl you can get decent speeds from 2am to 7am......sometimes.

I've had numers readings of 1kb down and 5kb up. I've called them many times to complain but there really is no point barking down the phone at some foreigner who does not understand what you are saying when the problem is the sub standard network.
I have found a way of downloading from torrents but the speeds are terrible and as soon as clearwire see you uploading "large" amounts of data they disable your connection.

I live in Harold's Cross D6. I would not recommend Clearwire to anyone as even if you have good speeds now they will most likely fall as more people come on line in your in your area. If you're tied to getting a wireless broadband solution and live in a house I would suggest Irish Broadband's Breeze 1 or 2mb. I had this for two years and it was fantastic. They do not block anything and you have no download limits.
