Default Clearwire w/ Skype/iChat

Hi all,

Has anyone gotten Skype or Apples iChat to work on clearwire? I also have another VoIP application for my PDA that won't work... I can get audio ok, but due to clearwires latency and rubbish upload speeds, Others can't hear me.

Very frustrated here..I've got the 2Mb pack from Clearwire. The most I've ever gotten from it is 1.3Mb.. usually its down around 333Kb or less, and my upload should be 256 but has been as low as 6.

I had a long conversation with clearwire tech support today about it - they seem to be blaming my ethernet cable.. despite the fact that I changed it for a new one during the call with no change.

I've tried it direct to my PC and through my airport express to no avail.

I'm complaining about the fact that:

a) around peak times the service is slower than dial up
b) I can't use Skype despite them having the ports for VoIP open on my account. I think this is due to their miserable network performance
c) I can't use iChat for video or audio calling - same problem as above
d) They don't send regular invoices and debit from my account without invoicing me (which I'm pretty sure is ilegal)
e) Their customer support is rubbish - I've emailed them 6 times and got nothing back. (I emailed clearwire USA and got response straight away - even if it was no help!) I eventually got through on phone and they rang me back, but it seems like they won't listen to the complaints I'm making.

Never once have they hit the performance I'm paying for and if this doesn't change I'll be dropping them straight away. If they charge me the cancellation fee, I'll be taking them to the small claims court.

Is there anyone out there who is happy with clearwire - is it worth my while trying to sort these issues or should I just walk away?

Default soon to be ex clearwire user

hi. all i can say to you is run,run like you've never run before.
they told me today that the can fix my problem playing battlefield 1942. they have blocked the port it uses.lol it was open when i first got the so called service, then it stopped 4 ages and lol they teased me by letting me play for about 2 weeks but now its gone again. I'm now waiting on the form in the post to cancel service.knowing them it will probably take a while. all jokes aside they are a really isp and if your in the position to go with someone else i would highly recommend it. good luck!

If you are going wireless then ask the provider if you get a fixed IP. If you do then that is a first step. If they are doing NAT (Network address teanslation) at the base station then there is no chance of a good service. I know that Amacom and Nova networks in Cork do this. But Digiwab and IBB don't - so why is there service ****e - well then ask about the backhaul network they use and you will more than likly see ESB Telecoms there. The cheapest wholesale bandwidth you can purchase.

Just my 2 cents. At the end of the day a residential service has no QOS like a business grade service.

M8, I'm living in a place where I feel the same like you, spent loads of calls through my mobile because I canīt have my VoIP phone working, I hear people clear but nobody can hear me! no skypeout, no skype, no internetcalls, nothing!
They don't do anything until you ask to speak with a manager, who will be rude, agressive, etc... Bad thing M8.... Bad thing... On peak hours, dialup is much better, at least it works... What to do? Try IBB, it seems to work, but do not get their RIPWAVE service, not good, use the Alvarion equipment, I designed big networks for the south of spain with that equipment during 2 years and no issues, just a radar was killing a backhaul, but this a long history...

Take care man, If you wanna contact me for anything regarding your problem, just mail me to jesus.escolar@gmail.com or buzz me at 0851118336, the more we are, the more we can do something against their service to get it fixed *in some way* ...

Cheers!

hey to all of you clearwire haters...
check this out.
called them a week ago complaining about Ventrilo, CoH, CoV, GuildWars, WoW Downloader.
wich i got a reply to that they need some trace into that i get and all that fun stuff.. i ran a trace info and it's all coming back AWESOME but when i try to load any of the previously mentioned games i get crap for connection.
after wanting to cancel i was transfered to the cancelation department and i told him that this and that is not working so i was told they will send the complaints to the engineers to look at.
got a call from them saying they can TRY to fix my game problems.. to wich i said is impossible since they would have to unblock everything and make uploading work (wich is the main problem for vent).
trying to convince me that they can get services to work and that the engineers will PRIORITIZE the traffic for those games.
that still won't allow me to use P2P or Ventrilo.
so i got IBB coming to do their signal test and see where i stand with that.
when i do cancel crapwire i'm not going to be paying no cancelation fees since legaly they never notified me about them at time of purchase.. i never got a form to sign i never got any info whatsoever so it's ILLIGAL to say that "ok youre canceling so we take the fee" you have to notifie the person of the things PRIOR to giving them the product/service.
plus you can't just go on a word agreement for something like that.
every contract (legal contract) has to be signed by the 2 sides after a full review of it by both parties and a physical signature.
when service provider doesn't provide you with any of that then youre NOT in a legal contract with them since you never KNEW the contract.
so i personaly suggest that if you want your Internet for anything more then just web browsing to RUN!!!!!!

Well my Clearwire service has improved - I actually get aorund 1Mb download now however the upload is still rubbish and full of issues - I still can't use VoIP as a result of this - Can hear people perfectly but they can't hear me. This is really frustrating. I have to choice of switching to NTL now, but people seem to be having trouble with that too... maybe we could all join together here and form our own ISP?!!! :-) There doesn't seem to be much decent competition out there..

Default ichat video chat not working with clearwire

Hi,

First of all, i am no computer expert so could anyone advise me am i wasting my time trying to use apples ichat videochat while using clearwire.
It keeps coming up "insufficient bandwidth"
When i contacted clearwire they said its because i'm uploading and downloading at the same time and there could be too many people using there service at once (for example weekends)
When i asked if there was anything that could be done to sort it out, they said no.
Is it a waste of time tyring to sort it,could anyone recommend another isp where i could use video chat.
Also , if i was to cancel clearwire contract because of this, could they charge cancellation fee.
thanks in advance for any advice
