Default The truth about Clearwire

It is completely rubbish, do not get any of their packages. You will be greatly pissed off. The 2MB connection is not a 2 MB connection, more like ISDN as far as I am concerned. Yea they are dirt cheap and will get you the router the next day but that is all a load of bull if you can't use the damn thing proparly.

I cannot play any games other than WoW and that is with high pings, lots of lag and I keep getting disconnected.

Stay away from this crowd, their customer "support" is just rubbish. Never reply to you and they don't seem to give a damn about the customer. Always giving excuses... how about this, you ring their technical line to find out that nobody has a clue about the technical issues. "sorry sir, we are completely gobsmacked, will you ring tomorrow, maybe someone might know something..." What a pathetic excuse for a company.

Angry clearwire are useless

I am having the same problems. Slower than dial up half the time. i play alot of online poker and have been diconnected on numerous occasions which has resulted in the loss of hundreds of dollars. cust service is a joke .... all they seem to ask you is how many green lights are flashing on your modem.... once there is more than 2 everything should be fine... but its not....
A LOAD OF CRAP STAY WELL CLEAR.

I happen to have a friend who has Clearwire with no problems, anybody who expects to have a good gaming session on a wireless broadband provider is deluded, whether that be Clearwire, IBB or Digiweb the technology is not designed for that kind of thing it might work but DSL is always going to be better for gaming.

fiacloir - I am guessing you are using Clearwire in the States as you say you are losing hundreds of dollars?

game4it70 - From what I have heard they have improved of late.

Default Hi

hi adshell,no there worse than ever now(digi). was brill 4 the first 2 months excellant pings,no lag at all. after about 10 mails a numerous call they finally admited tonight there must be somthing wrong with my connection.i understand what ur sayin about wireless but when it works well i get average pings on this test of about 40 and d/l is 2.90 u/l 490. obviously there is contention but at the mo when i run back to back speedtests they can vary form .5mb to 2.97mb d/l and 200kb to 500 kb u/l. max pause on ping is 7-900ms.
regards game.

p.s sorry for going of the topic.

Having worked at an ISP in another country that deals with wireless that advice is about right, wireles is very variable and tall buildings, radio transmitting devices etc can effect this, moving the modem to a different area where reception is not effected or that is pointing more direct to the mast is the correct thing to do.

It's not clearwires fault if there is something causing interference, this is outside there control.

Default omg

you must still work 4 a wireless isp. so in my case i can have a near full 3mb service at 8pm but at 8.01 a building or a tree got in my line of sight to mast and 8.02 they moved back! tbh i'm not stupid thats not right and not contention either.

Everybody is right,

Yes wireless BB and some serious draw backs, weather, trees, building, distance all play a factor where as with fpiped these are not factors....

Yes clearwire is not responsible for the obstructions but they are liable for what they promise and in them taking a rep out to your house and testing the line, selling it to you and then leaving is a legal recognition that clearwire are happy with the signal in your area......

if it fecks itself up 1 month in just call them and say they have a week to fix the problem. if not them cancel they most likely wont charge the dissconnection fees. they offered not for me.

I'm just curious are there ANY happy Clearwire customers???

A few pointers though:

1: If you are a hard core gamer forget about clearwire and most wireless providers
2: If the rep comes to ur house and you get 3 or less lights DON'T TAKE THE BOX!!
they will say it's fine but don't bother with anything less than 4 lights.
3: If you live in Dundalk DON'T GET CLEARWIRE!!

my connection with the box here in dundalk as SERIOUSLY bad! 4 - 5 bars 500Kbs MAX
though I have to say my connection in stillorgan in dublin with the box is quite good
not flawless and some major problems before but is quite good
also gaming is all about the upload not the dl and my clearwire account when in
dublin is mess up and I sometimes get 600Kbs upload when I'm only supposed to get
200Kbs Still tough there are 3 cells which are with in 50 feet of my house
and there are even still problems........

I personally think there is a flaw with clearwire modems, I have been told before that the lights on there only take into account signal strength and not interference when I was a customer, and in that case, it may explain lots of people with 5 lights and crap speeds all day.

Obviously the evening stuff is contention mind.

I've seen this posted a few times by people on this forum. Is there anything to back up that wireless technology is no good for gaming or is this just stuff people are making up because they're getting bad service from IBB or Clearwire etc. I'm differentiating here between getting a crap service from a wireless provider and wireless technology.
My Xbox360 is connected wirelessly to my router which is using a wireless ISP. I can't get it any more wireless and it's great.

I don't see how a good wireless connection would be any different from a good DSL connection (low pings / high bandwidth are available in both technologies). If somebody could explain why they're different (without going into why IBB or Clearwire have caused them problems) that would be great.

Yup clearwire are totally and completely useless!! So annoyed about the whole thing cause my housemate just signed up when them for a 2 year contract!!! It's so flippin slow. 2mb download my hole!!!!! Does anyone know do they block Azureus? the highest download rate I've gotten from that was 6kps!!! Now it totally doesn't work Can't watch streaming videos or anything. I'm on the outskirts of one of the areas that they provide for, they said that the signal would improve over the next few weeks. Does anyone actually get a good signal with them?

Clearwire bock all p2p ports.
You won't be able to use any p2p app
apart from skype and then you may have to get them to unlock it.
I cancelled my clearwire due to all problems I had and their speed is a joke.

cheers for the reply. thats pretty lame. Dont really plan to be stayin in the house for very long, so hopefully the next place wont have clearwire! We dont have a phone line thats why she went for them, but it would cost about the same anyway if we got a phoneline!

hmm as far as I know buildings can't move and neither can trees, although yes the leaves can blow in the wind or they can grow.

Well let's put it this way, I used to be an employee of clearwire, but have recently quit, and don't support them more than any of you in either way, I just thought I'd throw those things in for fun. I know clearwire isn't that great, but it isn't meant for gaming or downloading, also it has only been around for about 1.5-2 years and they are still working out the glitches (although I'll be honest, who knows how long that'll be.) I just thought some of the posts were interesting and the first one that was by you, yes I felt like being an asshole because I just got through looking at another site with lots of ppl who were complaining about things they didn't even really know. Anyways sorry about the bad intro and no more hard feelings or flaming from me. I really am not an ass hole, I am very laid back once you get to know me. Once again, sorry about being an ass at the beginning, I was just not in the greatest mood and it seemed quite entertaining at the time.
