Default Slow PC with Vista

Hi,
You didn't say how much RAM you got with that Dell. Anything less than 1 gb is a waste of time. A friend of mine recently bought an Acer laptop with Vista Home Basic and 512 Mb of RAM. After the trial period of the Antivirus program ran out (it was Norton!) she asked me to install Avast. I couldn't believe how slow this machine was. As slow as my old, and long time retired, Dell with a Pentium 80 and 128 Mb of RAM. If the m/c was mine I would have dumped it back to the retailer with a big complaint.

On the other hand, another friend has a Toshiba laptop with Vista Pro and over 2 Gb of RAM and that runs like an express train. Extremely fast. I think you may have the problem that Vista is extremely RAM hungry.
