I like to build up computers over time with parts gathered from various sources. Its fun to do and surprisingly easy. Every computer behaves in a different way, depending on what you put into it. And there are lots of excellent bits and pieces out there to aDD to your computer. Beats the hell out of buying off the shelf.
Yes generally it works out cheaper. Ive put computers together for a couple of other people
and theyre very happy with them and the cost. The best thing about it is you get to choose
exactly what you want in the computer. Any PCs I have bought in the past have just been
taken apart and used for spare parts and experimenting, because the quality of the parts in
them is just poor. I would always encourage someone who is thinking of getting a new PC to
look into building it themselves getting someone else to build it. Good old fashioned DIY.
Maybe for personal use, but for the office I find it easier to simply order complete PCs (sans OS) from either Dell or PCPro
It maybe marginally cheaper to build your own office PCs, but once you factor in the time involved in actually putting them together the cost saving may be negated
Yes that makes sense, I was referring to home users. But I know that if I was to buy a computer for say 1500 quid, and build one with the same amount of money, the built one would be superior. But its also the enjoyment of putting it together yourself, for me anyway. Obviously everyone wouldnt enjoy that side of it.
Well as i have now started building pcs for people with my company spla****.net i find that the bigger the machine the easier it is to be competitive with the biggies! (IE.. dell etc)
Having had to do some quotes for people and pricing my parts from komplett if you are building a small basic pc for someone by the time you buy all the parts, software and charge for your time it really works out cheaper to buy a dell and even charge for setting that up. Personally i hate dell as i have had WAY TO MANY bad experiences with them so i would use hp instead. If someone wants a good gaming computer or a good comp in general then deffo i could do an all in package alot cheaper than a dell or hp etc.
I built my first late last year from a komplett kit. It was €650 and i got a cd-rw/dvd-rw, 200gb hd, pent 4 (3.0ghz) 512mb ram (2x256) 256 msi nvidia graphics card, msi mother board with 3 pci-express and 1 pci, or the other way around not 100% sure, tower with 2 usb and 1 firewire in front. Very happy with it now. Working quite well for me.
i'm all for building it your self, even its not all about the cost, its about the satisfaction you get switching it on for the first time and it works! dell can put together a very cheap pc but they do cut corners on order to make it cheep.
best site for learning how to build a computer is http://www.tomshardware.com/, they tell you everything, from how to build an oil colled completly silent pc, to how to build your own lcd projector, to building a basic pc.
