Question Vista is here!

Anyone try vista yet? Everything ive been reading about it has been bad so I would like to hear from users who have taken the leap and upgraded.

Im still XP at the mo and probably will stay with it for a good while. As far as I can tell Vistas main selling point for someone like me (gamer) is Directx 10. Considering theres no DX10 games out yet well then theres not much point in buying Vista

In order to run vista you would need at the very least 1.5gig of ram.
Vista needs 800 megs of ram just to run and with the price of ram so high
you would probably if your a gamer need 2gigs.
Vista seems to be a pain not just because of the price but because it has also implemented DRM(digital rights management).
I like you will stay with xp for at least another year until the full ramifications of Vista are realised and to see how many service packs come out with it.

It's not that funny. It's kinda sad. That audience found it hilarious that the Windows search was similar to the Mac search and the other items. I can't think of how to create any search box that would look much different. It's like having two text editors. They're going to look similar. If you find that stuff funny you need to get out more.

Never mentioned finding it funny. Rather sad for M$ actually.
The best part is the start of the first video, when all the versions
of OS X are line up; M$ in the meantime was still developing Longhorn/Vista.
As for the search box it might be a bit far fetched but you missed
the gadgets/widgets, Mail soft, chess, calendar, Photo app etc etc
that have all been copied, as far as the colour scheme & pictures
used in the presentation
Parental control was announced last year as being introduced to
Leopard and was of course implemented in Vista, with Gates
proclaiming they created it... Sad sad sad...

what does it matter, a good 90% of the computers in the world will ship with vista onboard this year, also people who don't want to change to it right away (like me) will have to eventually. whos laughing now.

also didn't apple copy the idea of having a mouse with more than one button?

You should know what you're talking about before posting. The mouse was created by Xerox (along wit the GUI ) but they didn't know what to do with it. Apple bought it from them.

From Wikipedia:
"The first mouse to be shipped as a part of a computer and was intended for personal computer navigation was Apple's Macintosh I Mouse.

Engelbart's very first mouse had a single button; Xerox PARC soon designed a three-button model, but reduced the count to two for Xerox products. Apple reduced it back to one button with the Macintosh in 1984, while Unix workstations from Sun and others used three buttons."
Mouse (computing) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
(An interesting movie to see what happened at the time is Pirates of Silicon Valley, where all of this is illustrated.)

And if you have a look at the mouse Apple shipped with its computers it's been most of the time the one button one either with the old iMacs or nowadays with the mighty mouse.

And what does it matter? Not much but you seem eager to point out that PCs have 90% of the market. Good for you. All I'm interested in is innovation and their implementation in a good OS that is itself ran by very good hardware. ie Macs and OS X.

I'm not too sure those people running on PCs all over the world had a chance to choose in the first place.

Considering the Macintosh shipped in 1984 I thought you'd be interested in this Flashback 1983: The Microsoft Mouse - Gearlog

Ah well who cares it's OT. Just use the OS you prefer and that works better for you.

Default Vista

Last time Microsoft updated I stayed away for several months and it was well worth it. Several updates of the software occured, of course, compatability problems.

Just over 2 years ago I changed to a Mac.

It has been worth my time. No crashing, no freezes, and no viruses.

What a change.

ok software is limited, but I have what I want

No worried every time there is a scare about worms.

Wonderful

Have you noticed what a rip Vista is of Tiger,
go to youtube there must be at least 50 videos showing
how they have copied tiger and given it a vista facelift.
5 years they have spent making this and what do we get a copy.
I'm staying with xp for a while yet but if I had the money and there
was better software available for mac I would go there in an instant.
Oh btw leopard is coming out later this year and then microsoft can
start planning their next release.

Default Vista

Hi Rebel

Yes, like peas in a pod.

With the Mac. I use Microsoft Office and that is all. I have a Pc laptop for all my messing about. But that is very slow compared to the Mac.

If one is updating PC one has to activate the new OS but there is no problem with the Mac.

Yes., I am looking forward to the new Mac Leopard and maybe a new Imac also. That shall be sometime in June.

Mike

this is not about comparing it to macs but how microsoft are
not interested in users but just profit.
YouTube - Microsoft Windows Vista: MISLEADING!

Hi Rebel.
Looked at "youtube". Very good indeed. They have to make their money back. Until I saw that I would have though that both 32 and 64 bit would have been included.

i shall stick to the Mac.

"In the past 20 years, the Microsoft Windows operating system has accumulated old code libraries that brought it to the size it has today, 2.5 GB and about 50 million lines of code (Windows Vista). These old code libraries consume resources and are often the targets of security exploits. The best way to avoid such problems, is to start from scratch, which is close to what Microsoft plans to do with Windows Vienna. Windows Vienna will represent the start of a different generation of operating systems, bringing in new concepts and support for new types of hardware, along with a better security and a modular approach, which will allow future versions of Windows to be built more easily on Windows Vienna's engine."

Ah ah about time they'd realise that...
Due supposedly in 2009 so they have time to rip off every new
feature of OS X 10.5.

YouTube - Mac Switch Parody by Hunter Cressall for all the mac fanboys..honestly though i've never had a Mac and i don't hink i'll ever need one,why get something that has so many limitations regarding softeware..i think i'll wait a year or s before switching to Vista as i've never had a single issue with XP, which i got after they had ironed out all the creases..

Well I have tried it (ultimate) and its "ok" ,still a lot of compatibility issues
If you really wanted it ,I would wait until the first service pack to comes out.
Theres nothing actually new in it

I was able to skin and strip vista ultimate to fit on a 700mb install cd

Once I removed all the games, bells ,whistles and chimes theres not a whole lot there

If you wanted Xp to look and feel like vista I would install some bricko packs CrystalXP.net - Bricopacks
they just add and update some dlls so theres no real resources needed with them
