how do i get a second computer connected to telsey wireless router

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

hi
just wondering if anybody has experiened trouble connecting a netgear wireless usb adapter to magnet.
i bought this for a second computer that i gave to the kids which is upstairs but had lots of trouble and eventually gave up.
magnet support NO HELP!!, they used some 8 bit versus 13 bit encrption excuse. they use 13 bit and netgear is 8 bit. is this true. the main computer is connected via a cable.
any way around this or do i need to buy something else.

Thanks John

From reading topics on boards.ie, it appears that the Magnet modem seems to only have one IP address available (a public one), so can only take one connection at a time. If you make the single connection an Ethernet one to a Wi-Fi router, you can get that router to distribute private IP addresses to as many PCs as you need.
Of course, that will only work if the Magnet modem has an Ethernet connection - does it?

Indeed. Question, though. Does this Telsey Wireless Router have the modem integrated, or is it a seperate device that's connected via LAN/Ethernet cable?

If it's the latter, then you should buy a third-party router, and plug the modem into that instead. Linksys are the favorite for me. Steer clear of Netgear routers and USB adapters if possible (they are absolutely terrible). If you already have a Netgear USB adapter, then don't worry. It will work alongside the majority of commercial Wireless Routers, no matter who the manufacturer is.

However, if it's the former, then maybe buying another router could work in that situation too. Below is some connection suggestions to suit this situation.

If the Telsey Router has more than one LAN/Ethernet socket/port, then:

Telsey Router (First Socket/Port) --> Main PC (yours)
Telsey Router (Second Socket/Port) --> Third-Party Router --> Second PC (kids')

If there's only one Ethernet/LAN socket/port on your Telsey Router, then do this:

Telsey Router --> Third-Party Router
Third-Party Router (First Socket/Port) --> Main PC (yours)
Third-Party Router (Wi-Fi) --> Second PC (kids')
