I am a Metro user but have NEVER experienced downloads of 2800 kbps. (so congradulations). Perhaps it is because of contention ratio and the number of users in my area (DubCity).
The upload of 379 sounds about right however.

Did experience a peak in and around the time of your post.

I am finding the service a little sporadic in terms of speed.
Usually average around 2000 kbps with a max of about 2200 kbps.

Have NEVER experienced the quoted 3Mbs/512 kbps on my line though. Might give them a ring this afternoon to see if I can get a reason?

If I find out anything of interest will post here.

Talking upgrade of carrigaline dsl system

i found out that eircom have upgraded the dsl system in carrigaline and 3 other places. see below for info.

There is a planned upgrade for systems connected through four exchanges : Malahide, Walkinstown , Carrigaline and Claremorris. The upgrade is part of a test which will increase the download and upload speeds of customers on these exchanges commencing December 7th at 200 Hrs ( 8 PM ). The upgrade is expected to be completed by 080 Hrs on Thursday 8th December. Customers should not experience any service downtime during the upgrade – however, if any user does experience a break in a session service can be re-established after two minutes by rebooting their Broadband Modem.

dsl up to 5mbs

Exclamation Speed Boost

I am a Digiweb Partner and recently they have bumped up all their packages.
EG: joe Soap on DSL 1 (1Mb/s 256kb) has been upgraded free to 2Mb/s 360 something.

Nice to know that they are STILLthe cheapest in the country for that reason.

Default 3Mb speed

that sounds about right.

you might just be on the bottom end of the contention ratio.

typically 1/6th of your speed is reserved for a threshold.

I didnt get upgraded, even though there's asolutely nothing wrong with my line. I never had problems before this supposed upgrade, now I cant even get past ISDN speeds half the time.... Im thinking of switching cos theyre dragging their feet sorting this out too.

Its a pity because a 2mb line for 29.99 a month sounds promising.... if it worked!

Exclamation Problems with Digiweb's Speed

here is a little inside information for you.

Eircom STILL won't let any 3rd party techs look at their exchanges in order to troubleshoot DSL problems.

Request that they place a service request with Eircom (we have another name for them, but i won't post it here).

Sorry to hear you are having problems.

Well I know all about Eircom, I sort of work for them. Ronan the guy handling my case, hes very nice and is doing all he can admittedly, has logged a check with them. Eircom went out to exchange and reported zero problems, he's now asking what exactly they did out there because there's clearly a problem!

But is the problem necessarily on Eircom's end, could it be something on Digiweb's end, to do with contention perhaps? Or is it a ploy by Eircom to get us to switch?

All in all its extremely fustrating?

Default Broadband speeds in Carrigaline

Hi Guys, i'm one of the owners of the internet cafe on kilmoney road and over the last few weeks i have had endless numbers of customers coming thru my door giving out about the eircom broadband service. Apparently the carrigaline exchange has reached its capacity and will not be upgraded in the near future e.g. 2 -3 mths. This is only hearsay but they all cant be wrong. We have 2 high speed lines here, a primary & backup. We are using Nova Networks as our main line here and although we have our fair share of techie problems it has to be said that when all is in order the speed is fab. Most days i have 3mb down and up. Our backup line is provided by strencom business broadband and is a 3mb line also.

Anyway, feel free to call in & chat or enjoy a coffee on me, just ask for richard.
