Lightbulb Metro Lite

Seems they've just introduced a new plan called "Metro Lite" that gives you 1meg down with 256k up for €19.95/ month with phone line included...

Anybody try this or their other plans?

I have the 3mb metro package since last year and it was always very good until last month (April). I was getting speeds slower than a 56k dial up. I got on to there IT techs who told me that the 3 rock transmittor needed to be upgraded and that it would be done at the end of the month (April), so I then got onto there complaints department explaining that I was paying for a 3mb package not a 28kb one. They got back to me saying that the service would be fixed at the end of the month (April) and that they wouldn't charge me for that month. A week into May the service was still bad so I got back onto the complaints department who got the problem fixed the next day. So far so good, I have been getting a service in the 80 to 90's percentage wise according to speed tests from the speed test site here. I don't use there phone service so I can't help you there. Hope this helps.

Default Wireless ISP's

This is very similiar to the problems that I had with IBB, it seems to me that the wireless providers are selling products that they cannot back up with bandwidth, i.e. if they have a big sales drive and flog say a 1,000 connections thay cannot necessarily guarntee that they have the capacity to back up all the new customers.

When it's twigged you get the mushroom treatment (feed 'em lots of s***e and turn out the lights 'till you go away or the site gets upgraded)!!! Hence when you sign up a leap of faith is required. Anyway watch this space!

Default Metro Lite

Hi, Yes, I got Metro Lite installed last week and so far everything has been good. Speed test has been bang on 1 Meg every time. Plugged a phone in and I have found no problems so far. Only difference to Eircom is you have to dial in the prefix for local numbers.

FYI, You can port your existing phone number over only on the 3 Mb metro and you have to be a customer for 2 monthes b4 they will even consider it. It then takes 15 working days and 50 Euro. Also phone numbers issued cannot be ex directory and if you port your existing ex dir. no. it will lose that status.

I had Eircom business starter, 3Mb, at 54 Euro p/m. that was a bi monthly bill of approx 150 + calls. I've cancelled Eircom broadband and will cancel my landline next week if I find no problems with the Metro lite service. New bi monthly bill of 44 Euro + cheaper calls most welcome.

I think Eircom couldn't care less if their customers EVER made a phone call as they are very happy getting line rental money from nearly every home in Ireland.

Any other company that was receiving that type of money would have the country on 24Mb BB mainstream service, not 2MB. Ditch em I say !!!

I am starting to see what Twomma is talking about regards wirless providers. One week the service is great the next week it is terrible.
There engineers are looking into it. I have to speak to one of them tomorrow to see if he can sort it.
