Default Pathetic speeds for 3mb , digiweb

Hi , dsl recently became available in my area so i was very happy was i have been on dial up for years . Im a bit of a gamer so i was looking forward to great pings etc. I signed up for the 3mb digiweb " small business " package for my home. During the day i ping 90 - 120 to any decent server , where it shud be 40-60 and stable ( gaming ) and in the evenings / weekend i ping anywhere from 150 - 250. This is horrific. Also , the download speed is very less than satisfactory, topping out MAX at 100 kb going as slow as modem in alot of places. I am bitterly dissapointed by this and i am really starting to think about signing up with eircom as smart isnt available here yet. If u cud offer any advice please do , thanks. For example if i ping eircom.net in the evening i get +- 300ms per second :/. what the fxxxx , its meant to be 3mb

been using the 3mb for some time now and have to say it's been pretty good. worst case is about 1mb download rate at peak times. in my experience the digiweb crew have been very good to deal with, my advice is drop them a mail with the rates and problems - i'd be very surprised if they don't resolve the issue.

I'd check out if Digiweb can solve the issue first. If it's a line problem, then the chances are the exact same problem you are currently having with DigiWeb will remain with any DSL ISP you sign up to be it eircom, smart or otherwise.

I have had nothing but good with digi until now but thats a different topic

I have always received full speed

Its not all to do with digi on your speed the server you are downloading from also has a part to play depending on whosever server you are downloading from your speed can be crap or the full speed

Hi Nuxx.

Your network connection to anywhere is dependent on the slowest link in the chain; for example it takes about 12 hops to get from a Digiweb-based IP addres to eircom.net, so if there are problems with any of the 12 points in the link then you'll see a degradation in the performance. Try running a tracert to your destination server or URL, and then try pinging each of the addresses that come back, to see if any of them are experiencing significant lag times. If not, or if they all ping back slowly, then I would say get onto Digiweb themselves. In my experience they are pretty prompt at sorting out these issues. Good luck.
