Default Digiweb performance in Limerick - any opinions?

Hi folks.

I've just signed up for Digiwebs 3Mbps/month service on the outskirts of Limerick City, and have so far failed to be blown away by the speeds I've been seeing. Averaging almost 1500ms for pings, with download speeds of anything between 300KB/s down to 2Kb/s. Has anyone got any longer term experience with Digiweb in Limerick and opinions as to the quality of their service? First impressions are not the best for me.

Hi Jokerman,

I live in Limerick, Raheen area, Had Digiweb for 4 months and got rid of them. To be honest I was very pleased with my broadband, excellent upload and download speeds most of the time. Nearly always close to 3Mbs download. My problem with digiweb was the telephone service, bad enough loosing your telephone number and having to include your area code everytime you dialed but the biggest problem was the consisently poor reception , dropped calls and unable on many occasiobs to connest at all. It all became very frustrating and eventually had to give up on them.To be fair to Digiweb they tried hard to rectify the problem. I am not fully convinced yet that VOIP technology is the way to go, maybe in a few years .

Now with Smart and very happy after some earlier problems with slow download. Cheers

Hi Blacknight,

Not sure if they use VOIP on their tech support lines BUT usually had a very long wait before somebody answered, sometimes had to give up waiting it took so long. " You are in que position 2 " was nearly always the recoreded response .

Thanks for the info rugbyguy.

I've only signed up for Broadband internet, I don't believe that wireless broadband can offer a good enough quality of service for VoIP - the checks I carried out on the connection indicate a QoS of around 65% or so, which isn't good enough for voice.

I'll keep an eye on my speed and will post back later.

Hey jokerman and rugbyguy,

Do either of you know if Digiweb or Smart is available in the Kilmallock area in Limerick?

Hi mickomania.

I couldn't say if either are available in Kilmallock, though I'd imagine that at least one of them would provide a service, as I'm reasonably sure that Kilmallock has a broadband line. Check out www.digiweb.ie or www.smarttelecom.ie, if you give them a call or drop them an e-mail you'll find out. They'll probably need to know the phone number of the premises you want to get broadband in, so if you have that to hand it'll speed things up.

Hope this helps.

Hi Jokerman,

I live on the northside, Ashbrook, I've had digiweb lite for two months now. The 1Mb broadband package is bang on 1Mb every time. The VOIP phone is working perfectly so far. Line quality is superb on the older home phones but suffers slightly on cordless phones. I always found this to be the case even with Eircom's land line. Just once in two months did the phone not work, sent support an email and they reset somthing ad away she went.

Regards,

Dec
