Default Digiweb Wireless Speeds

Hello. I have the digiweb wireless bizwave package that says that I am supposed to be getting 1mb download and 256 upload. The Speeds that I am getting are as follows:
Download 99kbps (13KB/s)
Upload 14kbps (2KB/s)

Are these wrong?

Default Digiweb Wireless Speeds

In response to your query about your download and upload speeds, your download and upload speeds are way off. 70 to 75% of your download speed is what you should get which is in your case is between 700 to 750 kbps. I do not know if this is applicable to your upload speed but your upload speed is way off. Try using an Ethernet connection on your computer if you do not already have one as this will hopefully improve speed.

I upgraded to the 5mb package. lol did I say 5? at best I get 3mb. Okay it peaks at 5mb. but It's all over the place every second it's different by a long way. Say 1mb then 4.5mb 3.mb but never near close to a constant 5mb or 4.5mb. I'll give Digiweb a shout on monday and we will see what happens. If they give me a contention bull storey or any storey that's unsatisfactory, Then I'm going to cancel the direct debit. I'm very P....d off! €60.00pm for this crap service. I'm not paying for that not in a million years contract or not. I will give them a chance to sort it out, I'll be fair. But I won't pay that amount of money for such a bad service. Wireless or direct to modem it's still the same. Is anyone else having such problems? Anyone from the carlow area having the same problem? I will let ye know how I get on.

Hi Tom. I use skype now and then. Sometimes good sometimes not. It's very hard to know if the problem is related to the skype network, the other persons broadband company, Or Digiweb.

Hi Mad Lad

Do not waste your time contacting DW about your speed issue. I have had the same issue since July on their Metro 3MB service (down from 2.8MB to under 1MB)and I got nowhere in the end. They even gave me the option of cancelling without penalty. That seems to be the response when they will not admit that the problem causing it may be on their end. With regard SKYPE I have not used it so I cannot be of much help on that.

If you do however decide to contact DW support please let us know how you get on.

HI Cunnijo. So far I haven't heard anything from dw. But I will give them untill wedensday Before I ring them. You see it helps to have records of communication between you and the company. But so far it looks like returning to EsatBT. I never had speed issues. what it's like now I don't know. I don't want to have to pay for an Eircom phone line. I would keep Digiweb no problem if they just got their act together. I'm Getting max of 1.7 m now. 10 mins ago was getting 1.5 max. That's pathetic. Go to Speedtest.net - The Global Broadband Speed Test. the digiweb speedtest is far too short. It gives you a burst higher at the start then slows to a crawl. Let me know what speeds ye are getting. And say what package you are on. I'm on the 5m. I'm just wondering did they put me up to the 5m at all? Will keep ye posted.

Hi Mad Lad.

From your reply you say that you are getting a max of 1.5Mb's on a 5Mb connection when you should be getting speeds nearer to 4.8-4.9Mb's. It is possible that you have not been upgraded but are still being billed for it. Do not use DW's speedtest tool, as it is far from accurate. They even admit to it. The speedtest tool used on this site however is accurate and up to date, as well as speedtest.net. To answer your other question I am on the Metro 3Mb package and now again I am getting an average 2.86-2.92Mb after nearly 2 months of speeds of sometimes lower that 512kb. I did mention in my earlier message that contacting support was futile as they are very reluctant to admit that the issues affecting you may be at their end and not yours. But if you are planning to contact DW support let us know how you got on through the main forum (but please send me a private message using the facility available on this site to let me know who you dealt with there, as I would be interested on who you get)

Hi Cunnijo. Day 2 still no contact from dw. I rang them today. Was told I would be rang back 20 mins later, guess what?? yep no call back. I managed to ask the lady on the phone could she tell me what package I was on She told me I was on the 5m package. But I don't think so. And I didn't get her name. Tonight I'm getting between between 2.7 and 3.0mb/s. That's the fastest in a while. I will check in a while again.

Hi Mad lad.

So you really think DW will return your call. If you do then think again. They will soon call you however if an email is sent to them wishing to cancel. If it was support you phoned today I think I know the girl you spoke to. If it is she will come back to you, as she did twice on one day when I had serious issues with their Metro phone service, it would not dial out. If not ring again and ask for her because I think she is the only girl in support but phone from work not home (if possible). As a matter of interest what DW service area are you in?

3Mb is an improvement but is still a long way off what it should be. Are there any other wireless providers covering your area apart from DW? If there are what have they got to offer, as you would prefer to avoid having to pay Eircom for an even worse service maybe.

Check out the link. 1.8mb/s at this time? So the speed increase of earlier was short lived. Cunnijo, There is no other wireless provider at all where I live. I would go back to esatbt I had no speed issues at all with them. that was about 10 months ago. Don't know about now. It was support I phoned earlier. I too have problems dialing out on metro. But I was told this when I Installed the system. I used to work for dw that's the only reason I got it as I'm I think about 1km outside the limit. Fair enough I didn't expect much from the phone service. But the broadband was fine for a while. Now It's a joke!

Mad lad

I am surprised that the installer told you when installing the system that you could have issues with the phone service. It took them 4 months and 2 wasted service calls to realise that the issue was at their end all along - worth noting. It might be worth dropping to the 3Mb service to see what speeds you get there plus of course it will save you over €15pm. Which browser are you using to carry out the speedtests? Both IE and Firefox will give 2 different readings Firefox being the faster. With regard to BT you should read the section of the forum that deals specifically with them. It is an interesting read especially when BT has to use Eircom's bitstream product until LLU is unbundled

Hi Cunnijo, I was the installer, And I was told by one of my bosses. That I probably would have a problem at such a distance to the basestation. But I really don't care about the phone. Sometimes works sometimes not. Dialing out is the problem. I use IE to do the speedtest. I will install firefox and try. But to be honest I use download accelerator, and even with 2 or more downloads going it's still the same story. I use bitorrent, limewire. The ports are not blocked by digiweb, and I opened them on the router and on my firewall.

Hi cunnijo. I forgot to tell you I am working off of the Carlow basestation. I got an E-mail from tech support. very nice lad. I rang him, they know something is wrong. Though I didn't hear the words. So we will see what happens. Here is a speedtest from 18.18 fastest I've seen it in a while. But it is only 18.20 so I will test again later. And still bad for one that is suppose to be getting 5mb/s. http://www.speedtest.net/result/182207525.png
I have just noticed the time is 1 hour behind. And they say it's gmt?

this speedtest was done at 20.30. Is this poor excuse for broadband going to continue? I have not got it sorted out yet. So I guess it will be a letter to the bank!
