Default Going to have to change from digiweb...

Hi , i posted here on this forum a couple of months back talking about my poor download speeds. Im on the 3 mb package from digiweb dsl and its never been good , in fact iv never had a speed over 100 kbs Iv recently read digiweb throttles downloads so programs like utorrent dc++ and other things dont work for me , ever. Maybe a max speed of 2 kbs with 100 seeders However direct downloads of internet sites are alot faster , yet no where near my wanted 3mb :P Neways i need a isp that offers good pings in the evenings , good customer service and above all one that DOESNT throttle downloads. Any1 else on the 3mb package feel free to tell me how your package works , help me decide on a new isp

Default Some thoughts for Bitorrent users

Hi nuxx

I don’t know whether the Digiweb DSL service throttles downloads as you think but if everyone was allowed to freely use programs like bittorrent all the time then the other users with which you are contended will suffer. Don’t forget on the 3Mbps package the contention ratio is 24:1 so if all users DL continuously then each can only get 3072/24 or 128kbps, hardly what I’d call BB speed.

As regards direct DL speed Digiweb DSL only resell the Eircon Bitstream product which is RADSL [rate adaptive] meaning all other things beiong equal the further you are from the exchange the lower maximum DL speed you can get.

The only way you are going to be happy is if you sign up to an uncontended service but be prepared to PAY for this.

Default Digiweb

I am not sure what service you have with Digiweb.I have Metro Lite this service works fine the speeds are variable but 30 -100 Kbs for download is usual. Please remember that slow download can be the web site or server not the ISP.There are a few dedicated sites that test your ISP speed do a search. The 10 gb limit is ok you can monitor. The price 19.99 per month with a telephone included. The backup service was efficient .I am not complaining.

Default digiweb throttles speed

i left digiweb 2 years ago, they had throttled my download speed on bittorrent,
i may aswell have been on dial up, i am now with magnet on a 8mb line 1-1 contention ratio, download speeds are awesome, no restrictions on any p2p service,,price including all local phone calls is around 60 euro,,,believe me it does not get any better than this, the only draw back was having to change my phone number and ironing out initial setup problems. but now i can honestly say i am as happy as a pig in s**t.
btw i live in dublin

Default Up and down but overall happy

I live in Cork City and subscribe to Digiwebs' 3Mb DSL service, which costs me something like €43 per month.
The first couple of weeks went fine, with me consistently clocking speeds of around 2.62Mb Down and 325Kbps Up.

That mysteriously went awry JUST AFTER my first invoice...... speeds decreased to between 0.8 - 1.2Mb down and 100Kbps Up.

It seemed however, that the timing of this slow-down was a "coincidence" as when I rang the support line, there was a recorded message to inform me that customers in the "021" dialling code area were having a minor and short term issue with their DSL service. I waited on the line and talked to a rep who informed me that the service should resume as per normal standards by the end of that business day.

"Fair enough", I said and so I waited. And waited..... After 3 days there was still no change.

As you can imagine, I was not a happy chappy and straight away got onto customer support via email. I had kept screenshot records of my transfer speeds over a week or so, taken from this site and also from Digiwebs' own Speed Test. I sent all of this info and outlined my displeasure at not receiving the service for which I felt I was paying top-dollar.

I received a response informing me that my issue was being looked at and as soon as it was resolved, I would be contacted. Essentially, the wording of the correspondence admitted liability for the problem on the part of Digiweb themselves, so I was reasonably happy that a resolution would be reached.

And it was, gradually, over the course of a couple of weeks or so but I never did receive that email to inform me that the issue was no longer outstanding.

That was about 2 months ago now and i can honestly say that things have been fine ever since. I use a bit torrent application and with the right torrent, I have achieved consistent speeds of about 300Kbps per second. Now, this is far from the norm but I do regularly see 100-200Kbps on transfers which makes me happy. Speeds any less than that are usually on poor quality torrents with few seeders. Lets hope it stays this way!

Hope this helps a bit! Happy New Year.
