Default Digiweb's monthly allowances?

I've just check on mytraffic.digiweb.ie to see how much I've been downloading & uploading & I realized that after they show you your download & upload amounts they add them both together & label it as traffic.

Then underneath they show your monthly traffic quota allowance for whatever package your on,which got me thinking.

I was always under the impression that there was unlimited uploads with any net provider & in particular Digiweb so why does it say total monthly traffic allowance is 40gb??? That would also include uploads aswell as downloads.

Surely that can't b right,especially for 42 euros a month.

I've called them and they have said that it's the download that's capped not upload but I don't want a nasty surprise at the end of the month with either a huge bill for over useage or a reduced line speed as a result of going over my allowance.

Can anyone shed any light on this?

Default bandwidth caps

I'm with clearwire (till the end of the month)and pay 40 euro a month for a one meg signal witha ten Gb cap on my traffic , so your not too badly off if you look at it that way.
I was on the phone to them before on a related matter and was told the ten Gigabyte cap was a total of upload and download traffic.
Upon further investigation i was told that this was not the case and that the cap was on download only ,but that i had to watch my upload traffic as it messed up their system having people upload any real quantity on their "magic" modem , so i was told to leech as much as possible when using a file sharing client - sad but true !
I'm looking at ntl for my new connection....

they cap your traffic ie both download and upload on a rolling allowance ie its not a monthly cap but the last 30 days usage. this can mean that if you go over the limit they will cut your speed to 5kb/s and you might have to wait 30days before getting your usual speed back. thats why i left the for ibb dsl no limits and no problems.

after 3months I've just learnt to deal with it,although as long as u don't go over by 10gbs or more they seem ok and haven't slowed me down at all.

Based on my past experience with Digiweb satellite (two years ago), the monthly transfer allowance is based on download traffic over the last 30 days. The same goes with their DSL and Metro services from what I've read around. With the satellite, the transfer allowances were 2GB and 4GB per month down for their Skystar and Skystar Plus packages respectively (~1/4 this for upload allowance), where the downlink bandwidth was cut in half for every 512MB or 1GB over respectively until it reaches 64k from what I recall two years back.

However, as I've just recently signed up with their DSL and haven't seen anyone over the DSL limit, I'm not quite sure how quickly the bandwidth is clamped. For example, I've seen a few posts mentioning the clamp to something like 64k takes place after 10GB over for the DSL XTRA package, but this could potentially be after a stage of progressive clamps like I previously seen with the satellite.

So far I haven’t heard of anyone getting changed extra for excessive usage and I know a few people who have exceeded even Eircom’s DSL allowance a few times without getting a penalty, despite them mentioning about a excessive usage charge.

The main thing to watch out for with Digiweb as a few pointed out is their 30-day rolling quota. For example, if a customer downloads a hefty 10GB file, this usage remains on their quota count until 30 days later, unlike other ISPs were the quota is reset on the 1st of every month.
