Based on my past experience with Digiweb satellite (two years ago), the monthly transfer allowance is based on download traffic over the last 30 days. The same goes with their DSL and Metro services from what I've read around. With the satellite, the transfer allowances were 2GB and 4GB per month down for their Skystar and Skystar Plus packages respectively (~1/4 this for upload allowance), where the downlink bandwidth was cut in half for every 512MB or 1GB over respectively until it reaches 64k from what I recall two years back.
However, as I've just recently signed up with their DSL and haven't seen anyone over the DSL limit, I'm not quite sure how quickly the bandwidth is clamped. For example, I've seen a few posts mentioning the clamp to something like 64k takes place after 10GB over for the DSL XTRA package, but this could potentially be after a stage of progressive clamps like I previously seen with the satellite.
So far I haven’t heard of anyone getting changed extra for excessive usage and I know a few people who have exceeded even Eircom’s DSL allowance a few times without getting a penalty, despite them mentioning about a excessive usage charge.
The main thing to watch out for with Digiweb as a few pointed out is their 30-day rolling quota. For example, if a customer downloads a hefty 10GB file, this usage remains on their quota count until 30 days later, unlike other ISPs were the quota is reset on the 1st of every month. |
