Default Sudden loss of DSL

As usual, CrapCom are at it again - I had four days of faultless broadband and then bang - my DSL light starts flashing. I call on thursday, they'll say I'll have a technician within five days. It's tuesday. No technician as the info was only given to him yesterday! In addition "you musht be some more patient, we only have gived him address and name yesterday".

It's nice to speak to someone who can actually speak english...not this garbled mess Eircom are giving me. I want Magnet back, but Oranmore is not covered

Exclamation Sudden loss of DSL

It sounds like you need to reset your modem, take a pen and stick it in the small hole in the back of your modem and hold it there for 30 seconds. After you do that wait for the dsl light to turn solid then open your browser and type 192.168.1.254 and hit enter. When the page opens click on connect. I hope this solves your problem.

Cheers Rory, but I tried several modems, none of which worked, so I called Eircom (who hadn't a clue...as usual) and they only found the outage on monday! I actually spoke to an Irish person (shock! horror!) who was very nice and apologised profusely. But all is well now. I'm in Lisroe, Old Bog Road, ESSID irishwan.ie_lisroe

Do you have any other phones/devices plugged into that line? I had the same problem and I found that one of the extensions in the house did not have a DSL filter on it. This apparently causes noise on the line which disrupts the dsl siginal. Hope this Helps

Ive been suffering the same problem myself for close to 4 months now.Ive called Broadband support went through the usual crap have you turned on your Modem please reset your modem ETC all to no avail.the DSL light flashes then the connection drops for roughly 1 to 2 minutes comes back on then drops again this cycle will continue for nearly 20 minutes or so and needless to say is extremely annoying. Ive had an Engineer call to my home to check the line which was fine and twenty minutes after i received a call from Broadband support telling me that the problem was solved ,which could not be further from the truth because my Modem light was red and the DSL light was out. When i told the Nigerian Gentleman from Broadband that the problem was not in fact fixed he suggested that maybe my line was unable to run 2 meg (ran it perfectly for the past four years) and maybe my line should be dropped to 1 Meg, on hearing this ridiculous advice i expressly informed said individual not to drop my line to 1 Meg as the Engineer found no fault on my line, Guess what happened next, thats right the very next day i checked my line and hey Pesto they went ahead and dropped the line to 1 MEG after i expressly forbid them to do so.So after a lot of Phone calls to broadband support i simply gave up and Decided to call customer complaints.

For the past 2 months now Customer complaints have gotten 2 more Engineers to check my line each time the line comes up as good. Then i receive call after call telling that the problem has been solved when in in fact it simply hasn'tAnd when the line is stable the speed is almost pre Dial up. Customer complaints rang again yesterday to state that the problem lies somewhere between my Exchange (Tuam) and the main server in Dublin, this is after telling me on numerous occasions that the problem i was experiencing was solved they have upgraded my line now to 2 Meg but the problem still persists Ive just ran a speed check and the results where Download 726kbps and upload 160kbps and thats a 2 Meg line:mad.:

My apologies for my somewhat disjointed post but to say that I'm not a happy Eircom customer right now would not be an understatement.

Default Same problem fixed

Hi,
I was also faced the same problem before two months. I have tried everything. The engineer checked the line and that was also perfect. I have tried Linksys, Netgear, US Robotics, D-link, Philips, C&W etc modems. Nothing happened. Line was dropping and dropping especially in the evening time. Alt last I bought a 2WIRE 2701HG modem router. Really it's fixed the problem. Now no more line dropping. Speed also increased. Before 2.42Mbps down and 318 up. After 2.71Mbps and 335kbps. Thanks to the 2WIRE.

Good for you. Could you give me a little more info please like who's your ISP provider as i was under the impression that the Modem itself only handled the connection up to your Phone point inside the house and had no bearing on the connection itself. I always assumed the connection was entirely governed by your ISP provider. And also where one could Purchase this Modem. Many thanks for your reply

Hi Merlin,
My ISP is BT Ireland and the connection speed is 3Mbps down and 384kbps up. About 2WIRE modem, they are using Advanced ADSL Modem Technology. Just check this page. 2Wire.com: Advanced Modem. As per my experience I think they are right. I bought the 2WIRE from USA in my last visit. This type is not available in Europe. Try to get one from USA.

Thanks for the reply. Unfortunately it looks like i will be unable to afford such a modem. Anyway i doubt that it would make any difference as my connection is extremely bad. Ive gotten my ISP provider (Eircom)finally to put me back on 2Meg but my average speed is somewhere between 400kpbs to 600 nowhere near where it should be and thats coupled with the intermittent connection loss. But thanks for the info nevertheless i appreciate it

High levels of data interleaving are pissing me off. My Netopia router reports interleaving as active. Unfortunately I cannot disable this locally as this functionality is set at the exchange DSLAM.
