Default Online Backup on Broadband

Hi Everyone,

I was just wondering if you can recommend any online backup companies in Ireland.
The only one i've heard of is keepitsafe keepITsafe Online Backup : Automatic, Offsite Backup.

Regards

There are quite a few companies offering solutions these days.

What kind of requirements do you have?

Smile Re: Online Backup

There is a large amount of companies offering online backup.

It all depends on wheather your a business or an individual:

For individuals who want very basic backup i'd go with carbonite...

Its €40 a year ... www.carbonite.com(not monitored or managed)

For businesses in Ireland looking for Email/Exchange/SQL backup and a fully monitored solution your better off going for one of the big Irish players such as eircom net Homepage, keepITsafe Online Backup : Automatic, Offsite Backup or Broadband - High Speed Connectivity - Magnet Entertainment. Eircom V.Expensive, Magnet ok, keepitsafe ok!!

Make sure whoever you go with that they are backing your information to 2 seperate datacenters and they're services are professionally indemnified.

Also look very carefully at the package you are on, both in terms of speed and cap, it's very easy to eat a lot of cap doing backups, and then get hit hard for expensive surcharges as a result.

The other thing to watch is that most broadband has a very slow upload, unless you are paying a lot for a very high end business package, so it might take a lot longer than you think to do the backup,

All the other comments are also very valid, and ideally, you need to be using 2 different physical locations alternately, so that if something goes wrong, you have still got a backup that is known to be good.

Also make sure that the remote site is making backups, so that you are not overwriting the only copy on their system.

Have fun, it's a nightmare trying to work out the best way to back up so much junk that may or may not be needed.

Cool Re: Online Backup

One other very important thing is History.
It is very important that if your word file or database corrupts that you
can roll back to your data as it was another time in the week or month.
Eircom gives a 7 day history so if your data corrupts on the tuesday and you don't notice its corrupted until Friday you can roll back to the way it was on Monday.
I know keepitsafe will give you as much history as you like..as long as you pay for more storage!! They can also set it so it up to take a backup once a month and store it for a year.

Default online backup options

carbonite - worldwode. big and cheap
mozy - free personal backup
savenet solutions - irish business backup
backitup.ie - irish general backup
backupanytime.com - Ireland and UK online backup
Rocksolidsystems.com - general data backup

I wont say which ones I use. I use 1 international company for home (free) and one other for work (chargable)

Default online backup choice

From your list I would choose carbonite for relatively unimportant personal files. This is cheap but outside of Ireland and with no local support. It the data is absolutely essential and you want support in Ireland I would pick Backupanytime online backup 91 441546, Data Management, remote Backup &Restore
We have almost a terrabyte of data on our backupanytime account and our experience has been very good. They are there to do business and unlike most other providers we contacted, they responded promptly and with clear explanations and a helpful procedural approach. We got to bargain because of the quantity of data we have but their standard price per gig is compeditive.
