Default Landline upgrade

Hi, I need some advice

I've moved to a house which has a telephone line and works fine but the installation seems to be pretty old and I don't get any Broadband signal. My service provider is UTV though the responsible for the line maintenance is Eircom, as I understand. Eircom says that they have activated my broadband connection and there isn't any fault with their service.

How can I do to upgrade my line? UTV seems to have no idea of that. Does anyone knows how much would cost, some people have told it would be around 150 quid!

I'm considering cancelling my service and installing Digiweb instead, I’ve been 2 months without internet now, the time it took me to find the cause of the problem.

Thank you all

Hi

You say that UTV cannot sort your problem and eircom are very reluctant to solve it, as they are not providing their products to you - just the line. However if you change to Eircom Broadband every effort will be made to get you sorted.
However you mentioned Digiweb as an altrnative. Their Metro service does not require a phone line (its wireless) and their broadband speeds are good (2.93DL and 495UL speed on the 3meg package, as a example). They even give you a phone service as part of the package. So with that you can port your number over to them and get rid of the phone line in the house. However this depends on where you live and if your area is covered by the service.

Worth a look

John

Exactly John, you hit the nail on the head. Switching to Eircom at this stage would be a hassle and time consuming (when you switch to one telephone provider to the other there is a mandatory 25 days "waiting" period when nothing is done).

In fact I already signed up for Digiweb Metro Lite service, but they haven't installed it yet. I heard they are good, I will send my feed back as soon as I test it.

I've been with UTV for 2 years and I don't have any complaints about the service, the Technical support is excellent, this issue is not their fault but an Eircom problem

Thanks

Adrian
