Default What Eircom exchange am i on...

Hi folks,

Does anyone know if there is a quick way to find out what Eircom exchange my line is on?

I am living in a new development in Longwood, Co Meath. Some people I have talked to have said we are on the Enfield exchange, others have said we are on some other, more local exchange.

Is there an easy way to find out? I have looked thru the Eircom site but cant find anything...

The reason i am asking is that the Enfield exchange is BB enabled, but my line fails Eircom's online BB check. Now it could be that I am simply too far from the exchange.... but I hope it is because i am on a different exchange.

I will ring Eircom customer support but I dont hold out much hope of them giving me the correct answer...

when I was getting my line in (just before Christmas), I rang Eircom looking for an update on my order and they, very sincerely, apologized and told me that I cannot be connected for some time because: "The exchange is full and no more connections can be made until an upgrade is completed in April at the earliest - I will need to wait until then before I can be connected."

... the *very next day* a nice lady from Eircom rang me to say my line had just been connected and activated!

So as you can imagine I don’t have much faith in their customer service/information!

Anyhoo, if anyone got any ideas on finding out about the exchange!

cheers,

Paul.

Default Try this

Go to Smart Telecom - Residential, Broadband, Corporate, Ireland and use the line checker. The result will display the exchange name also.

Default Score!

Thanks for the tip - It appears I am on the Longwood exchange... so hopefully I will be able to avail of broadband if/when Eircom upgrade it.

I know there are alot of people here (longwood) that want BB... many (including myslef) are using a rather poor Fixed Wireless via Satellite system. I think however, that we may be in the chicken/egg situation mentioned in another thread... lots of people will get a line if they can get BB on it, but without a line currently, they cant register their interest with Eircom and so Eircom dont see the full potential of upgrading the exchange.

Ah well... hopefully some time soon I can get back to a half decent service (well as far as it goes in this country!)

Thanks again for the help,

Paul.
