Default Switching to an Eircom BB Package

So rang up Eircom yesterday and was telling them I wanted to sign up for one of their broanband and talktime packages. The support I had gotten with my questions and stuff was quite helpful but towards the end of the conversation she told me an Eircom representative would call me in a month to let me know that the switch has been done.

At the time I took no notice of the time line she had given and I just said ok thanks and hung up. But today Ive been thinking why is it going to take a month? Im switching back over from BT.The more and more I thought about how long a month is the more edgy I got. So anyone know why exactly it is going to take a month to have a phoneline and ISP to be switched back to Eircom?

Thumbs up Switching delay

Hi Danm,
Don't worry! I had a similar experience when I recently switched from BT to Eircom. I understand the month's time span is to allow sufficient time for all the 'paperwork', electronic and otherwise, to be carried out.

Also, it's for BT to have sufficient notice to cease their billing at the switch-over. BT need it because in the 3 years I have been with them, there has only been one bill that I haven't had to query. And, would you believe it..... despite the switch-over, their most recent bill, the supposedly final one, included a charge for line rental in advance! They had kept up their assinine error-prone billing record.

As for Eircom telling you someone would phone you, a nice lady rang me to confirm all the details of the package I wanted, and then 'an independent operator' recorded my request for the switch. All nice and smooth. I was asked my reason for switching.... my response was "how long have you got to listen"!
Good luck,
Dickiesam

PS: It was during the latter chat with the 'independent operator' that I was given an exact date for the change-over.

When it comes to your broadband, make sure you update your router's username and password to 'eircom' and 'broadband1' respectively if you decide to continue using the router you used with BT. Once you can connect with Eircom's logon, don't use or test the BT DSL logon again. Otherwise if BT keeps billing you (like they did with me for 6 months after I changed to another ISP) they will only refund to the last date your router logged on to their network and not the actual date of changing.

A useful tip with Eircom: If you have any issues to solve, such as a phoneline or DSL issue, call Eircom before noon. From my experience, if I call in the morning, generally I either get through straight away or get put on hold no longer than five minutes. I also find that those on the early shift tend to be more friendly and helpful and don't tend to get pushy to hang up either. Where as in the evening, especially after 4pm, it can take up to 30 minutes on hold and those on the late shift usually blame the customer or their equipment and are quick to finish the call.
