Angry Eircom Broadband Bailieborough

Having put in various support calls about dire broadband speeds (each time Eircom "resolved" the issue-case closed with no improvement), eventually I got an e mail from customer support informing me that my 20kb download speeds were due to "congestion at the local exchange". It is slated for an upgrade, but they can't tell me when. ( I have a 2meg business package).

Is there any way to tell what the contention ratio is, as compared to what they sold it as?? They are happy to take Bailieborough residents' money, but don't seem to give a crap about the service they provide. Are they contracturally obliged not to exceed the contention ratio, or does the phrase "broadband speeds may vary" allow the B******S to do whatever they like?

Would anyone know- if I was to move to ESatBT would the same problem remain??

Default hi ..

I used to be with Irish Broad Band had a 3 meg line and used to receive around 1.7 meg on a 42:1 contention ratio
So in my wisdom I decided I would take the eircom 7.2 meg connection with a 24:1 contention ratio and wumph my speeds dropped dramatically, the best speed I have now is around 367mbps.

so go figure this eircom can lease the lines to another company that provides me with higher download speeds on a lower package and higher contention ratio, how does that work out it beats me. Now the worst time for me is when traffic increases ie. after 6 and weekends, take sunday for instance 4 mbps yes you are reading right 4 mbps and this is on a 24:1 ..
so listen my good man contention ratios mean jack sh.t they use them as sales pitches as you have no way to check you just have to take their word.

Eircom spends huge amounts of money looking for their customers to come back, I have to pose the question back to what less than modem dial up speeds yeah right.
Anyway guys just for the record I live 1.5km from the exchange just in case you might ask and I pity anyone living any further.

The worst part of this whole scenario is I'm stuck with them now for the duration of the 6 month contract, there is no bringing the product back like you do to a shop and demanding your money back oh no, telecommunications
suppliers are seemingly out side of that you're stuck with them or pay up ..

rant over
