I have an Eircom 2mbps down 128kbps up package. Up to recently, the modem reported the down speed as 2048 but in the last week or so, this has fallen to betweem 1664 and 1824. I know eircoms DSL is rate adaptive. Has anyone else seen this ? At prebent, my test results on this site are 1.51Mbps down 102kbps up, roundtrip 33ms.

Those speeds are fine, what are you complaining about?

I know these speeds are acceptable but the point is that I was getting significantly faster results two weeks ago. Why should my speeds be getting worse?

Yes. They initially triied to blame the internal house wiring but I have a means of plugging the modem directly into the incoming phone line thus bypassing all wiring in the house and the speed is the same. When I told them this, they tried to blame adware on my machine. Since I have three machines on a network and they all see the same speeds, that can't be the explaination, especially since one runs Windows (with spybot kept up to date), one Linux and the third MacOS X.4.1. At this stage they ran out of ideas and I gave up. I might try again in the hope of getting a more knowledgeable support person. I have had one previous reason to phone eircom support. I got nowhere with the first two people I phoned but on a third attempt got a super guy who sorted my problem. To be honest, I can live with the speed I am getting. My main worry is that it will get worse.

I tested mine today and got 423 down and 82.9 up.
I ran the netropia firmware update after reading that I should do it and results improved to 860 down and 99.7 up.
I was just wondering should I have better speeds than this and if so does anyone have any idea how to speed up my connection.

I gfuess it depends a lot on the concentration ratio in the DSLAM, Eircom can change this at any stage. SO while uyou have 2Mbit down from the access side of the DSLAM you may be contending on the uplink.

Default Other posts says Eircom have a strict policy of not.....

Other posts says Eircom have a strict policy of not garrenteeing anything least of all speeds and worse
if the speeds fall They Eircom aint goona fix it
and if speeds fall far enough down that you dont got a servise
thats tough they aint gonna fix it and worse
the other companies only rent the line from Eircom
so they wont take you if your lines faulty
as they not gonna fix the lines either

So the best answer to your question is get real high teck solution
get down on your knees and pray real hard to God or mecca whatever is your religion that your speeds dont keep to go down and down
and if that dosnt work well theres always the bottle to seek solice in
because in good old Ireland there are no real High teck solutions at intellegent price service ratios

work for eircom tech support myself is hard to escalate these as where normly told that its not an eircom issue no matter what we do but we do it when we can ring enough and you will evently get an agent who can escalte it the trouble is most of the agents are new and dont know hwo to support it properly
