Thumbs down 2mb broadband

hello everyone.i am a new member who has had a problem in last week or so. I have run the speed test a few moments ago ,it is 218 dl and 212 up. that is not what I am paying for

I have phone support line 3 times today and as far as i can see nobody cares !!!! done the tests on both my laptop and pc both wireless and by cable . It was the same both ways . The support worker said to turn off my antivirus to run the speed tests

what is the situtation with my contract over my isp not being able to supply the agreed speeds ???

I have contacted other providers and they say they can not do any better ???

Thumbs down Big problem for me too

Hi Martin, if its any consolation I have exactly the same probs regarding speed. Things have dropped off alarmingly over the last week or so. My router says the negotiated line speed is 2048kb - various tests show me getting less than about 170kb, down to 66kb. I am totally ticked with this, but at least it looks like a "local" problem - I am in Wicklow too. I'll call em up tomorrow and add some weight to your complaint. I was just about to change to BT after several months pondering it. But I guess they will be using eircom lines too so it'll probbly be just as bad - bad a lot cheaper.

Let me know if you have any joy from eircom - there must be others in the same boat around here.

Patrick

I'm on IBB too and the test here has never shown me on anything greater than 700 down. But when I let my torrents max my line (for testing), I get pretty much max up and down most times.

Obviously your 218 is worse than my 700 but trying a few more tests on different sites and trying torrents will give a more complete picture. I like testing with torrents as if a few users in the swarm are slow it won't affect your bigger picture as you're connecting to 100s of users so no one slow user is slowing you down.

Default Still sloooooooooow

Well I rang Eircom and spent about 30 mins talking to "Chris" he ran me through a load of stuff - all of which I had done myself prior to ringing. Give him his due he did not give me the ole "don't support the 3com modem/router" chat. He decided my service was slow and is sending a man to check it out - cost me 56€ if it turns out its my gear/wiring thats at fault, lets hope its not. I have found the netopia they gave me and results with that are pretty much the same, so I feel vindicated - lets see what the "man" says if he ever gets here.

Default Ibb...

I've had the pleasure of using netsource (adsl) and then the displeasure of IBB.

For the entire of last year I had serious packet loss, which resulted in big echoing when using voip. I had been using it successfully with the 64k codecs on the 2mbit/128k dsl connection - because of never loosing a packet - but on IBB even the 7k codec was bad.

The reason for IBB were clear -> no line rental which meant practically free phone use - line rental is €25 remember - as I pay only €15 for all IRL & UK calls with blueface (I recommend them by the way, great service).

Unfortunately IBB were unable to resolve the issue until this month - almost a full year with them. The solution was simple : move me from the kilsaran transmitter/receiver to the _closer_ one in Superquinn (Lucan).

The download is now stable and I get (so far) no packet loss - which means good voip. The upload is still a bit slow - under 1mb but thats acceptable as I mostly download anyway. The speed still goes up and down - up to 3MBit one day but I am not logging any more calls unless the packet loss gremlins come back.

I'm giving them another chance.
Regards
Conor - oh and Hi all - first post

Smile This is weird

So to follow on, this morning I did a few speed checks and found that things had improved tremendously. I was getting speeds of not much over a 56k dial up for the last few days but mostly low 100s. This morning (after having spoken to Eircom yesterday) I have been getting 1.6 or so megs. Great I thought, good ole Eircom have sorted things out, no engineer visit - cool.

Imagine my surprise when I got a call from the helpdesk asking that I leave my modem connected so they can test the system, I said " but you HAVE sorted it out, its better than ever it was". Oh ! said the helpdesk man, we haven't looked into it yet !

I really don't understand .

Default 2 mb

has anyone got any calls or any notification of what is happening with this speed issue ??

My upload is at times passing my download speed......very unusual me thinks

is this something that only happens for a short time or is it going to be a permanent thing ??

Competition in the market place is always a good thing ...... good for the customer anyway

Well I dunno whats happening with yours but after one rather lengthy phone call to eircom support mine went right up to 1.6m the next day. Like you I am in Wicklow (town) and I was getting faster upload than download. I have now downgraded to the 1mb package getting 0.8M which is plenty for me but marginally cheaper.
