Eircom have been experiencing some issues today, though they are supposed to be fixed by now.

Default Speed test -v- actual

This has been an ongoing problem.
It is most evident in Windows ME.
It was particularilt bad in Windows XP until I configured the Eircom DNS server address in the LAN properties, this solved the problem.

Any ideas for Windows ME

Default Windows ME

Windows ME was a gimmick brought out by microsoft to make use of the mellenium bug etc...
My advice is just get rid of the operating system, its full of bugs and security holes.
If that isn't possible then adding the dns settings should solve your problem. If you are using an eircom zyxel or netopia modem then they should have dhcp servers running and if so set your ip address to be assigned by dhcp and also your dns, then you should have no problems.

Under xp it was necessary to configure the dns server manually. This was a tip given to me by an Eircom techie, who appeared to know what he was talking about. The auto assign produced inordinate delays under xp.

Had already manually assigned the dns in ME, but with no improvement.

Windows ME was dire. If you are forced to use it you can probably bludgeon something sane into it, but I'd urge you to switch to something else if you could...

One of the default DNS server on the router itself was wrong and i had to change the dhcp settings on the router to corrected values.

this may be the problem above. Secondry dns server was ok though.

As for the other issues that arnt easily fixed

-bad lines
-bad router
-bad eircom
