Default Delays getting BB from Eircom

I'm moving to Cork, found a house 3 weeks and I cant move until I get BB as I work from home. I ordered phone and BB from Eircom 2 and a half weeks ago online. The previous tenant had a phone service already. My experience so far:
After ordering Eircom told me they would call/email within 2 days of my order (emailed me after 2 weeks).
I was told it would take at least 4 weeks to just get phone service.
I called Eircom and their "system" thought that I needed a phone line physically installed. Nice lady on the phone put in a new order (2 weeks after my first order) and I got phone service immediately.
They wouldn't even take my BB order until the phone line was in.
Now I'm told I have to wait 4 days before they can even check that my line is BB ready, at which time they will take my BB order and then I can wait at least 11 more days to get the BB installed.

None of this is inspiring me with much confidence.

IMHO this is ridiculous. I'm considering ordering BB from a different supplier. Any recommendations for a fast (as in good download/upload speeds and as in connected before I die of old age) ISP?

Uhh. Smart=dead for now.
Perlico have a decent service but you could wait several weeks to get an account.
UTV are fair for price and benefits, but their tech's have no clue when it comes to problems, so use with caution.
BT themselves are full of ye-know-what from top to bottom (Perlico uses their service as a 3rd party, so they have a bit of clout with BT - and are not afraid to use it).
Chorus' cable is not bad at all when you compare DSL; but chorus need to be installed on your estate otherwise they just resell Eircom DSL (probably what jag refers to).

Nop im refering to their(chorus') cablenet product. Ive used it in several locations. 90% of the time its running signifficantly slower than yur paying for and then there are times it doesnt work at all ( usually random weekends). There are times it works great, apparently its dependant on where on their network you are so it can be hit and miss. Perlico and BT just resell Eircoms product which is OK but not great especially at Peak times. As for Smart they're far form dead only their Phone service is gone.

Just an update on ordering BB from Eircom that may be of use to someone else in my position.

The nightmare continues! I called Eircom on the 23rd (5 working days after requesting a line test). I'm told no line test has been ordered. Another line test is ordered, please wait another week, we'll call you back.

I call Eircom on the 24th. No line test ordered. In fact my line is not connected to a operable exchange. I can't get BB. I call back later. The line is connected to an exchange. Don't know what happened the day before, line test ordered.

I call Eircom on the 25th. No line test ordered. I talk to a supervisor. He assures me a line test has now been ordered, he'll call me back personally as soon as the test is done and I'll get a courtesy call before the end of the week (still no call but maybe he'll call this afternoon LOL) to let me know that the line test is being taken care of.

I call Eircom on the 26th. I'm told the line test has come back failed. I ask to talk the supervisor. She's busy but she'll call me back (where have I heard that before). I'm a bit suspicious so ask how I can contact the supervisor. I'm told "Call 1901 and ask for Ms. X in the Drogheda office". 3 hours later Ms. X hasn't called. I call 1901, no we can't transfer you to the Drogheda office, we've no idea why she told you that, no your line test hasn't come back yet. But (joy of joys) we can verify that a line test was ordered on the 25th. We'll (wait for it) call you back.

I ordered phone service and BB on October 2nd. There was already a phone line in the house and the previous tenant had phone service. 4 weeks later I'm still waiting to find out if I can order BB.

My last house (rented) was a bit more short and sweet.
Got a call from Eircom "We tested your line, it is invalid for BB", did an online linetest which PASSED and had BB for nearly 3 years before moving to my own house...

Really they don't even know which end of the hose the water comes out of..
