Default Eircom ISDN Connection speeds

I'm not very literate as regards internet connectioons. I use an Eircom ISDN connection and am getting download speeds equivalent to a 28.8 k modem and upload speeds equivalent to a 56.6 K modem. Can I imprtove things ? How ?

Default Improve your ISDN Speed

That's easy, You will need to download ad-ware or spybot from www.download.com and run this on your computer. People that download music/films will always get whats called spyware.

well ya you can do that, but most people do and spyware wouldn't cause that much of a drop in speed.

After your don't with ad-aware or spy bot search and destroy or the microsoft anti spyware program your speeds probably won't have picked up. You next step is to simply to get onto eircom and complain till you turn red!

BTW, its probably better if you download whatever anti spyware program you use straight from the company that makes it (safer that way) simply google to product you want and download it off the companys site.

Default Syware

If you use the internet alot, and download songs from Kazaa and LimeWire, Spyware can build up on your computer. A few spware is harmless. But alot of spyware can be dangerous, as it can get personal details, and worst of all, it is very annoying. Your internet and CPU will run slower, and you will get constand pop-ups, whether it is Search Assistantants or browser modifiers. Spy-Bot Search and Destroy is good for Spyware, and Ad-Aware (Lavasoft) is good for Ads. The best one I'd say can be downloaded on the Microsoft site. It is Microsoft Anti-Spywar Beta. It does Adware and Spyware. But you can only download it if you have Windows XP

Does the connection improve in any way if you use both ISDN channels?

I have used ISDN for about 3 to 4 years and to be honest I thought it was fantastic at first. I could get download speeds of up to 11kbs with both channels open to 128k. But as the months went by my download speeds went as slow as 8 to 9kbs even on 128k. And after months of complaining to Eircon, I finally decided to have it taken out. (Fee charged by Eircon to drop my line to a normal line €100) When the Tech guy from Eircon was downgrading my line he rang me and said that the line was almost broken and that he could repair it easily and did I want to keep the ISDN?
But I had discovered Wireless BB and download speeds of 60 to 80kbs (when it works) at a much cheaper rate than ISDN and you can imagine my answer. So my advice is to stay away from ISDN and Eircon if at all possible. Oh and the connection speed does improve “slightly” when both ISDN channels are open but with most ISP’s it will cost you the price off 2 calls at the same time.

Simple answer is. Check out if you can get WBB and if it is available in your area DROP everything to do with Eircon. Line, Line rental etc etc etc. Trust me you will feel like you have entered another world.

Default Isdn

I had ISDN out in Abbeyshrule (Longford/Westmeath border) while waiting months for the Lastmile installation. Actually worked perfectly. 130Kb on both lines and 70kb on single. Eircom guy said its a dying technology now. Only people waiting for broadband to reach them use it and there are few users on the system. Only drawback is cost: double phone charges and extra line rental but its a whole heap better than dialup.
