Did you bother to call them yourself and ask what wrong? Its pointless in complaining if you can't be bothered to check whats wrong.

Polar Ice, you're a little harsh on the guy.

In my experience, what's often pointless is ringing and asking what's wrong! Not just with eircom - but virtually any modern company connected with electronics.

Often, the smart thing to do Polar Ice is, actually, quickly log onto a forum and ask others.

Yes, ideally, the first port of call would be the provider of the product. But we all know that's not the way it is...

That depends a lot on the issue and the company you are dealing with.

For example, we use Netsource for our business DSL. If there ever is an issue we can ring them to get an explanation. They have no problem in telling us what the problem is.

If you conducted a survey asking customers of computer / computer-related products whether they found telephoning the provider fruitful when encountering trouble, the mass majority would reply in the negative.

Accordingly, Polar Ice's comment is a bit rich.

But it's encouraging to hear about Netsource. I'll remember their name.

If what the guy said in the first place was true and it had been down for a week I find it very strange that he never contacted eircom to check what was happening. Ontop of that such problems are isolated, your best bet is always to contact your isp first.

byrnalan, I don't understand why your defending the guy so much. Chances are he never checked the forum again anyway. Ontop of taht you raised an old topic. My post was dated the 8th October 2005 and you raised this again nearly half a year later jsut to tell me I'm a "bit rich"

The date or whether he ever checked back don't detract from the point I'm making.

You don't understand why I'm defending the guy so much?

Eh... he was being reasonable, you were being rude.

All he said was 'WTF is the deal with the recent slow speeds? I'd understand if it only lasted a day or two, but a week? WTF Eircom?'

He made absolutely no reference to whether he'd dueled with Eircom during that week. In my experience you call them, but it's of no consequence. He was simply having a legitimate moan, as far as I could tell.

Your entry immideately after his was, yep, a bit rich.

'Did you bother to call them yourself and ask what wrong? Its pointless in complaining if you can't be bothered to check whats wrong.'
