Now Passing eircom test

Hi,

Just checked my line after the press announcement on January 16th, and my line is now showing as passing . Am connected to the Tramore Exchange apparently according to the tests, am just wondering with regards to what package would i sign up to 1Mb or 2Mb, are these packages rate-adaptive or would connection always be attempted at the package speed, just wondering because i've heard of constant disconnection problems if the line cannot fully handle the higher speed?

I would suggest trying the 1 meg first to see how your line works, if it can rate at 700's on the speed test then try moving up to 2meg and hope for the best. The speed is mainly rate adaptive, but also the line quality and contention in your area also plays a big part. Ill check the reports on that exchange later and post back.

Ok after looking at the asam's , tramore is one of the heavily congested area's now this doesnt mean you cant entertain the idea of good speeds but you should be aware if it slows down at night your working against others on your exchange as contention may be high even on a 24:1 line.

Thanks Ronin for the advice, i'll keep that in mind, i probably will go with the higher speed package, due to the lower contention ratio applied to it, hate to think what speeds one would get if on 48:1 line, and it was maxed out, possibly get lower than narrowband speeds

If my experience is anything to go by [I'm also on a congested exchange] some days you'll be lucky to make dialup speeds even on the 3Mbps package.

Still if Rex Comb, Eircon CEO, can be believed they plan to roll out next generation technologly Don't hold your breadth there's yet a lot of money to be made by ripping off the Irish consumer connecting them to oversubscribed networks.
