Default Damn BT broadband

Hello all.

I have had my BT internet for around 4 months now. What can I say about it?

Absolute ****.

I moved back over again from England. To says its different would be under statment of the year.

I am currently residing in Co Kerry and since I need fast internet for my business I was disappointed to see 3mb being the highest.

No probs though. However the speed is ABSOLUTLY abysmal.

Seriously, I was getting speeds ranging from 300bytes a sec to around 30kbps (at 1:30am eg me now). The latency was also absolutly terrible

Anyway I rang them up and they said I should not have got the 3mb line and in fact my line isnt suitable. So they downgraded me to 1mb with promises that it will now be better

Its the same.

Im using a Linksys WAG200G router (ive tried many others) and its now showing that my internet is only training @ 600kbps So basically BT have dropped me down to a 1/2mb line.

This is absolutly terrible and I am experiencing intermediate drop outs.

Can anyone recommend anything? Its impossible to play online games as im getting a latency of 400-8000 (Steam games such as TF2, CS-S etc). Downloads are also so frustrating. I have to download some very large files, and seeing it download @ 2kbps is just heart wrenching.

Anyone? You would be a life savor. Im not expecting 1mb/sec just something half way decent.

cheers

Inside of your router, what are the Downstream and Upstream Line Attenuation and SN Margin dB levels reporting as?

Note: I'm in Tralee, Co. Kerry, using BT Broadband's 3mbits and Talk package. I just moved here from Shannon, Co. Clare, where I had the same package since February 2006. I have to say that there's no difference. I'm getting what I'm supposed to be getting.

l33t-krew, are you residing in Tralee or...?

Alright. That should help, hopefully, to ascertain what the problem is. Or, at the very least, eliminate the phone line from being the actual issue.

We'll see.

Hi l33t-Krew. Have you tried any wireless providers? I'm on digiwebs 5mb and only getting 800k-1.5mb max. That's not to say it would be like that in your area! At the moment I'm in my Aunties, she is on bt's 2mb package and this is what she is getting now

Not bad for the 2mb package. Upload isn't great but I could live with it. I'm going back to bt, as digiweb metro is useless in the carlow area! I'm only about 250-300 meters froim the exchange which should help too. I never had problems with bt's 3mb.
