Default Yet again more Esat complaints

Has anyone ever gotten a satisfactory response as to why the speed is gone crap on Esat's lines. I'm paying for 3mb and I'm not getting it. My girlfriend is on 1mb with eircom and gets faster downloads than me.

Take youtube for example. I can't watch a video straight I have to pause and wait. She can watch anyone straight through from the very start. It might freeze for a second at the very start but its perfect after that.

Just did a quick speed test and I'm getting 490kbps (60kBps) down and 230kbps (28kBps) up.

Nice isn't it.

The first thing I would suggest checking is your router's physical connection speed and if you use wi-fi, carry out a speed test using a wired connection to rule out a potential Wi-Fi card or access point issue.

If you have a ZyXEL router, you can check this as follows:
  1. Go into your router's web interface (usually http://192.168.1.1)
Type in your password (default is 1234)
  2. Go into "System Status"
    Click the "Show Statistics" button.
  3. Your Downstream should be either 1024, 2048 or 3072kbps for the 1Mb, 2Mb or 3Mb package respectively and the Upstream should be 128, 256 or 384kbps for the 1Mb, 2Mb or 3Mb package respectively. If not, power off your modem for a minute, power it back on and wait until the DSL light comes on solid, then check again.
If you still do not get these connection figures, you'll need to have your phoneline checked, otherwise, it means your ISP itself is at fault.

Typically a good quality 3Mb connection should give ~2.5Mbps down and 320kbps up on the speed test. At this time of writing, I'm getting 2.5Mbps down and 256kbps up on my Digiweb 3Mb connection according to the IrishISPTest speed-test. My uplink suffers a little as a result of my Wi-Fi connection, but the downlink seems to be unaffected.

I'm using both wired and wifi. All settings are correct and as they should be. Today the connection is grand. I've no doubt it'll go bad again.

Default ESAT 3mb line pits for me too

I was getting good ole performance from my 3 mb EAST line since I got it a year ago but last week it took a serious nose dive. Was getting 2,500kbps per sec down and now lucky if I get 300k. Upload speeds havent been affected. Like as if some serious contention suddenly appeared on the line ? Strange

For the last few weeks I have found that the download speed has come down from 1.7Mb to less 1. Monday last had no service for the day. Bt rang me back and when I asked them were they having problems - said no. Yet several friends in the area with Bt were also down.

I read in to day's paper that Eircom are going to double their speeds in the next few weeks.

But until the Regulator does something. We are still going to have a c...p service

I have a 2mb connection with BT and on Newlands Cross exchange
my speed on a good day will range from 1.75mbps download and ranging from 150 - 216kbps upload

like with others, i've had download speed issues, dropping below 512Kbps on occasions - but it is rare... I made an inquiry into it a few times, and was told the problem lies with eircom workers upgrading exchanges etc and nothing they could do.
