Glad I went back to BT I remember the horrible time I had with Digiweb. I did have account problems with BT but that's long sorted and I got a full refund. Speed fantastic as usual Here. I never get below 2.8mbs, I'm on the 3mb package. I can't wait for the rollout of the 8mb. Though I'm sure I will have to wait a good while yet where I live! It's nice to actually have something good to say for a change.
Great DL speed for a 3Mbps package. However, can you tell us all how you managed to get 3409kbps when the max obtainable with a 3Mbps connection would be 3072kbps and everyone knows you never get the max speed due to the way DSL works.

Hi Howfast, I have no idea but I'm not complaining. I use download accelerator for downloads and I mostly get between 2.8-3.1mbs so I don’t know? Maybe not many people downloading on the exchange perhaps? Torrents are slower maybe that’s due to BT. The upload today is a little slower I noticed!

Not to worry Mad_Lad. Those who are not going to get 8Mb (i.e. those who aren't on an LLU enabled exchange - which happens to be the majority of us spread out), will be getting the standard eircom upgrades that were announced at the end of January 2008, which are "due" in late June 2008 (or perhaps July/August, if the rumors of a short delay are true). The upgrades will affect all ISP's selling the eircom bitstream product.
If you're on 2Mb now, you'll be bumped up to 3Mb. If you're on 3Mb now, you'll be bumped up to 7.6Mb (not too far off that 8Mb that BT are rolling out on the LLU exchanges).
Note: 1Mb users will not receive any upgrade. Also, there is no news on how much the download cap will increase by, if it will increase at all.
HI DECEiFER. I would kill for 8.0mb/s. lol. The only thing I wonder though is will we actually see close to 8mb or will it be more like 4-5mb. All isp's these days always say "speeds UP TO" so they don't have to guarantee the max speed, which I know they can't. But at least I would like to know that I would have a good chance of seeing close to 8mb. My brother is with magnet in Dublin and gets over 15mb/s lucky git.

I wish we all had FTTH broadband, like a lot of the people I know in Sweden have. They can get 100 down and 100 up for maybe €60 tops, same as we pay for line rental and 3Mb/384Kb. But I do believe that Sweden is a world leader in Broadband, aside from Japan, and they are certainly the leaders of Europe.
If you'd like to investigate whether your line is capable of 8Mb/s, here's what I suggest.
Put in the stats as asked (they can be found in your router), and that little site will tell you based on those stats, what your line should be capable of. Don't take it as gospel, though. It's just a provisional guideline.
For example, my router reports the following:
(I live right near my exchange, so I have very good stats)
noise margin downstream: 26 db
output power upstream: 0 db
attenuation downstream: 2 db
You will only need the Downstream stats for this test. Also, it will ask you what your line syncs at. For 3Mb, it should be 3072 normally (2Mb should be 2048, 1Mb should be 1024).
See my screenshot for an example of how to enter the data and what my results show.

According to a letter we received from Eircom about the upcoming speed increase, our current 60GB download cap (Business Plus package) will be increased to 100GB. So, hopefully a similar download cap increase will happen for the other Eircom broadband packages.
Unfortunately, while the speeds may be consistent between broadband providers that resell the Eircom bitstream, the download caps currently vary provider to provider, so it looks like it will still be up to the other ISPs to revise their monthly download limits.
Hi DECEiFER. I did the test in my mothers. It says 7.15mb on her connection. Probably much the same for me. Pity they won't use adsl2. Ireland is always a stage behind. Probably 10 years or more before we see speeds like 15-16mb/s.
BT in the UK are only offering 8Mb on ADSL as-well. In-fact, your line will only sync to 8Mb if you are right near the exchange if you're in the UK. Otherwise you'll be lucky to get 6Mb if you live like 1.5-2km from the exchange.
The UK aren't so far ahead, compared to the continent.

I live only about 300meters from the exchange. So hopefully that means I have a good chance of seeing 8mb.
No, Eircom have delayed the speed upgrades by 6-8 weeks. Emailed their press office one evening this week and got the spiel about the delays the the next day.
I want to get 3mb bb with BT which should be going to 7.6mb by the end of the summer. I'm currently on a 2mb package with Eircom and I always get the full speeds. However, I'm not sure if my line is up to it. My attenuation has risen from 46 to 51 over the last few months but my noise margin is good at 25. From the following link it says I can get over 7mb when I fill in my details; The ADSL and ADSL2+ Line Capability Estimator
But when I go to Irish broadband's website and put in my number it only offers me the 2mb package (but it says my neighbours can get the 3mb??)
If I ring BT would they be able to tell me whether it's suitable for 3mb or not?
Help! it would be good to get close to the £Mb I'm supposed to be on. Anyone an idea when the upgrades are due to be completed?
Email press_office@eircom.ie and tell them you're on 3Mb ADSL and would like to know when your upgrades are happening. They won't ask you for proof or any account details. But, they will give ask for your exchange. If you don't know that, maybe supply your landline phone number and the specific town/village you live in (where it be Nenagh in Co. Tipperary or Rathfarnham in Dublin, to give two contrasting examples).
P.S. Using Smart Telecom's line checker will tell you what exchange you're on.
If I ring BT would they be able to tell me whether it's suitable for 3mb or not?
Cheers
Sorry, didn't see this question until now. They should be very well be able to give you a provisional yes or no on that, however, Eircom would conduct their own tests once you decide to order, just to be sure (so they say).
