Still, I think thats awesome that Ireland is coming up in the digital world lol :P

The speed test on this tells me that my max route speed is 23.8mbps, does that mean I could avail of it?

Red face

Might be a stupid question. How can one tell, what one's line is capable of.

You can get a rough estimate by getting your router's downstream attenuation, synchronisation speed and signal noise (SN) margin figures. For most of Eircom's Netopia routers, you can get this information by typing in "http://192.168.1.254" in your browser, go into Troubleshoot -> Statistics -> DSL. The Max Allowed Speed for the downstream column is your sync speed. For most ZyXEL routers, type in "http://192.168.1.1" in your browser, go to Diagnostic -> DSL Line and click the "Down Stream Noise Margin" button for the signal noise margin and attenuation figures, then click "System Status" on the left and then the "Show Statistics" button to show the downstream speed.

Once you get these values, enter them at the following address to get your estimated maximum ADSL and ADSL2+ sync speeds:
The ADSL and ADSL2+ Line Capability Estimator

Sean.

Thank you for the help. My speed is all over the place. Best has been 1.9MB after the upgrade, but most of the time I average 1.3MB.

Tried your site and it said that my max speed would be 1.5MB.

Shall try altering my wiring and come from the master direct to my computer.

Using a Mac. Brill never had any problems since the change over

Sean.

I do not believe it. Just doing a speed check or 2 and the speed has gone to 2.08MB. What a difference.

Thanks again

Have been doing a lot of testing with different routers today. The download speed are all over the place from below 1mb. to up to 2.08. My Line is capable of up to 5MB.

There must be a lot of users on this side of the system.

According to BT on their site the Local exchange is now camable of up to 24mb.

Default 24mb BT

I'm in a recently upgrading BT area (D8), our download speed went from 6mbps to 13mbps. Our upload speed went from 350kbps to 900kbps approx. Not sure why we're not getting the 24mbps advertised (I understand you rarely ever get that) but I do remember a BT customer service guy once telling the limit of my line was 11mb so I guess we're getting better than that but I'm a little disappointed. We've been having issues with our line for ages, dropped connections and service issues so maybe this relates to us not getting close to 24mbps.

Have been testing my line for the last two days and have found that I shall be lucky to get 8MB downloads. My speed have varied from less than !MB to 2.08MB with the average 1.3MB.

This is what I have been getting over the last 15 months. In other words my line has not come up to the mark.

Default Update

As I said , I was having problems with speed. I change router and had no change in speed.

I went back to my whole set up changed filters and wiring. Hey presto, sped has improved. Speed up 2.6MB download.

yes, but mt speed never achieved the correct speed. Had my line checked and it was found to be ok.

There was something wrong with the wiring.

I hanged everything, and changed everything back one by one and found it the wiring/

Default Bt 24 MB

After all my checking. Have changed my wiring and router and my Broadband is what I believe it should be. I am on Option 2 with BT so with the resent upgrading I am not on 3MB download. With i exception of one day my average speed is 2.5MB download. I am happy with this.

My exchange is one of those upgraded to 24Mb. Has anyone tried to upgrade to this or even 8Mb ? What have been the results.

Default bt 24 MB

A friend has checked my line with some software and told me the fastest I shall get is around 16Mb.

Did it take long to get the upgrade.

Default BT 24mb

I automatically got upgraded to the 24mb package about a month and a half ago. I live pretty close (1.5km) to the Dublin 8 Dolphins barn exchange which is always one of the first to get speed upgrades as BT has installed a totally new ADSL 2 system there which is under their control and not eircoms.

They did a test on my line and just like you, I was told it maxes out at 16mb which is what I'm currently getting.
