Maybe you are testing the speed at a different time of day than you were for
the first few days. Depending on the contention ratio, this can have a huge
affect on the results you get from the speed test, more people using the line ...
Or perhaps the providers have oversold and cant handle it.

Your best bet is always to call up your isp and ask them whats up.

Default Slow Slow Slow

My speed is supposed to be 2MB, it was 1MB.

It has been about dial-up speed for the last 3 weeks.

I keep ringing up to let them know. They asked me to send in email with screenshots of the various tests they done. I done this. I rang in a week later cos nothing ha dbeen done to discover they apparently never recieved my email.

Then another week later they told me I had to ring my phone company to get a PSTN check done before they could check the line.

I rang them back last week and they are "looking into it".

Its some joke.

Unhappy Up and Down We Go

I have been a BT Ireland Broadband user for about a year now. First on the 2Mbps service getting a steady 1.7Mbps DL, I’m over 2km from a rural exchange and I was happy.

Then came the speed upgrade to 3Mbps and I got 2.57Mbps steady [I now could download those really big files without leaving the computer running all night].

However after only a couple of weeks things deteriorated and at times I was only getting 1.5Mbps, that is worse than when I had the 2Mbps service. Whenever I rang BT Tech Support, guess what, my speed tests showed 2.57Mbps.

I started to keep a log testing at different times of the day. My DL speed fluctuates mostly between 1.3Mbps and 2.57Mbps (On one occasion it did fall below 1MBps).

I tested tonight and guess what DL 208kbps UL 314kbps. This is the first time I was able to UL faster than I could DL. I tried BT Tech support but they told me they could not justify a technician checking the service as the DL speeds are OK when I call them.

Has any one managed to get a fix for this problem?

I've run into trouble with my download speed with BT 3MB service.
I used to get nice download speeds, around 330K/sec download but its dropped to around 40K/sec.
I've done the speed test on this website and my DL speed is 300kbit with 5% for QOS.
Im onto BT T/S and they asked me to do ping and tracrert on their primary DNS and netstat also.

Yeah when service upgraded to 3 megs I was getting 2.56 meg downld with 99% QOS. Lately it has gone to hell with dDL speeds of 240 kbps.
Asked BT Ireland 'bout this and they sent me stock questionairre etc.
Is your PC on the roof of the building etc and is it facing south??!! Blah blah
On all the posts I have read recently, it seems that everybody is getting different feedback from BT,which gives me the impression that they haven't a clue, or if they do know theyr'e not telling...: (
My guess is contention ratio...

Got new router recently, which did nothing to improve the situation.

Thing is tomorrow my speeds will be back up to 2.40Megs

Am In S Galway area

Default Connection failures or connection problems.

Whats up everyone?

For those of you having problems with your btbb connection I recommend setting static internal ip address's. Those of you who only use your bb during the day, turn the modem off at night, and when going to use the bb connection for the first time in the day, always wait till DSL light goes solid green on your modem before booting any computers. The reasin why im saying this is, up until april of this year, my broadband connection worked at top speed every day, until i learned that the dhcp server chip on my modem failed completely. after about two months of constantly keeping at BT, they finally gave me a replacement Zyxel Prestige 660 w wireless router and a firewall built-in. Word of the wise. If you dont want any bother of having your broadband connection giving trouble all the time, switch over to bt business broadband, they listen to you then.
