Default Bt 1mb/2mb????

Im was originally on the BT's 1MB connection but received no email or any correspondeance whatsoever about an upgrade to 2MB. My connection is showing at anywhere form 600kB to 850kB.....not even 1MB!!!

I suppose i should ring tech support? Does everyone get upgraded to 2MB automatically?

Also does anyone know eher i can get a new Microfilter, the one supplied with my modem (6months ago) was faulty and still waiting for BT to supply a new one for me. Also cant find any locally (North Wexford).

Thanks folks.

(firts post here at all at all!)

I was automatically upgraded to the faster speed. I'm located in Dublin City Centre. You'll never get 1mb exactly. 850kb is decent but 600kb is not really that good. I now get on the 2mb service 1.72mb. It's consistently this speed according to the tests of run on this site.

I had exact same problem and was told by tech support that I had a "failed upgrade". Check your modem (for Xyxel click on system status link and then dhoe statistics button. See what your up/down speeds are for the port you're connected to. They finally upgraded me two days ago. The fastest I've gotten if about 1.7mbps (early a.m.) but now getting about 400. Upstream speed--evern with upgrade has NEVER broken 100kbps and and is typically 60-70kbps. Call tech support and at least get what you are paying for.

They should have upgraded you automatically but there were problems. It took 3 weeks and several phone calls but once they made the change both the up/down speeds were much more reliably within the quoted range. One things to note. While making the change they also accidently changed 1) the phone plan that I was on and 2) added to my account a flat charge for dial-up internet (hmm, why would I want that when I'm paying for broadband). Anyway, once I got through to a supervisor they did credit my account and I think it was sorted ok.

It took a phonecall to br upgraded, but instead of the upgrade from 1-2 MB, my package was upgraded to Option 3, so I resulted in 3MB.

Default 1.7mB but I pay for 3mB with BTInternet

I know the story with distance from digital exchange and all that, but I am paying for 3mB but only achieve 1.7. Is this reasonable? I would say I'm about 1.5Km from the exchange in Ennis, Co. Clare.
Thanks.

I'm with Bt on the 3 meg line and get 2.62mb,when i was on the 2meg line i got 1.7meg down.I dont think 1.7 for a 3meg line is within the limits of what you should be getting maybe someone can tell you excatley, but iwould be onto my provider if i were you.

Question Shock Horror

when i first connected to the internet a few months ago, i was new to the speeds of broadband. i had been previously been using a 56k modem. so when i first got connected i was delighted. i was downloading at speeds og 256k. but its only dawned on me now, that im actually aying €40 a month for line rental and "2mb broadband!!!".
The fastest ive been able to download so far is at 256kb.
Does anyone else have this same problem.
Im living in the south-east, so no surprise that i wouldnt be given as much preference ad say Dublin or Cork. but shouldnt i still be getting what im PAYING FOR!

Im also using a Zyxel wireless modem and a wireless card. could this be why my speeds are slower???
