Default Well done BT; so far

Just attempted to move my broadband sub from UTV to BT.

BT said they couldn't reliably provide me with their 3Mb package, on the basis of line tests, and had to offer me the less expensive 2Mb package instead.

Well done BT - and curses on you Eircom (for your underinvestment and incompetence, not to mention your corrupt obstuction of more customer oriented competitors!).

No more Eircom bill!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi Gearoid

Welcome to the BT club. I have the BT 3Mb package and apart from a frequent disconnection problem which I think is related to the crap ZyXel modem provided by BT the service works reasonably O.K. I get a fairly constant 2.57Mbps on the speedtest.

BTW I was also told recently by BT TS that new software they now use indicates that my line is only suitable for the 2Mb service. I think the software must have been supplied by Eircon to try and prevent the customer from getting better deals from other ISP's who resell the Eircon Bitstream product.

Hi Howfast, thanks for the welcome

I really look forward to the BT connection; it will answer alot of questions.

The funny thing is that the commencement of road works at the entrance to the estate where I live coincided with a burst in speed (with UTV) to 2.79Mb for one day and then a drop to about 250K since - almost like using a modem.

BTW, after wading through layers of inappropriate Eircom prerecorded messages yesterday (on 1901) I finally got through to a telephonist. When I politely asked her for my Universal Account Number (which doesn't show on my line rental bills), she mockingly repeated my question and hung up!!!
I know they are bad, but crickey!

Anyway, BT started the account on the old Eircom ac number in the end.

Fingers crossed and all that!

Gearoid
