Angry Useless Customer Service

I changed to BT from eircom back in 2003 because they were offering far better packages than eircom at the tim. In 05 I signed up for Broadband as soon as it became available in my area. However, like many peaple, I had problems from Day 1 with their horrendous "customer service". Firstly they got my order for 1mb broadband mixed up and instead provided us with 3mb broadband. On top of that they overcharged us by continuing to charge for Line rental which was supposed to be included in the package.

Since we were paying by direct debit, we only noticed the mistake after a while. Called customer service on 3 separate occasions before they finally agreed to give us a refund. A cheque would be sent out asap. 3 weeks and still no cheque. So I called BT and explained the situation again and finally the amount was credited to the next bill.

Now I checked our last bill. Unbelievably they were still overcharging for line rental. I immediately called customer service. Called @ 4:30, on hold for 45minutes so ordered callback which i got before 7. I told the guy on the phone we wanted to switch companies. He said I needed to find out if there would be a disconnection charge if our BB contract had not yet expired. He, apparently could not tell me though how long our contract was for and we would have to contact sales to find out. He said the sales offices were now closed and could even offer me a callback from them the next day. So called sales at bout 11am next day, only on hold for 20mins this time and was told customer service could tell me how long was left in my contract. so i was just given the runaround and wasted hours on their lame customer service.

Sorry for the longwinded email but I'm blue in the face with this pack of chancers. They offer some great priced packages but beware their customer service is awful and mistakes WILL be made!!

Hi platinum17

Your not alone. I have had my internet with BT since my days on dialup and also experienced 'issues' with billing. Of course the errors were always made in favour of BT and usually took a minimum of two bills and a number of phonecalls to sort out. But with perserverance it was always sorted to my satisfaction in the end.

Apart from the difficulty getting your own money back how has the BT BB service perfromed?

BTW if you need to contact BT customer service, TS or sales the best time to ring is 09.00.01 when their callcentre opens for business. You will of course get the auto recorded message telling you they're all busy answering our calls but I have found that at that time you will be offered a call back without the 45 minute wait on hold. To be fair the call back mostly comes within 15 to 20 minutes.

While you can be unlucky with the customer service agent there are some helpful and even friendly ones so keep trying.

Lots of luck

I've just had a nightmare experience trying to get our DSL connection up and running. We ordered 5 weeks ago and only just got connected today. The customer service lines were closed Christmas eve, christmas day and Stephen's day. When they finally did open again yesterday, I was on hold for over an hour on 2 different phone calls. They never called back either.

I've just checked our speed and it's showing up at 1.78mbps but we're paying for 3.

Would I be better off emailing them?

Hi mcavinue

You can email BT TS if you go in through the BT website and answers usually take about 24 hours but I've found a lot gets lost in the telling and its better to talk to a real live person, its leads to less confusion.

I know being on hold is a pain but as I've said before unless you've got the time to wait then ring first thing in the morning, request a callback and they do get back to you pretty quick.
