Default Inconsistent Speeds

Hi

Im just wondering is anybody else getting the same problem as me. My download speed shows up at anything between 300KB and 800KB using the speed test.

When I actually try and download a file of the web, my download speed is anything between 30KB and 100KB , but usually around 70-80.

I rang BT and they said this is normal. I have signed up for the 1MB connection, but I expected it to be a bit faster or at least reasonably consistent.

Brian

BT are fobbing you off there. I have a 512KB and the download speed can be 400kbs. IF your on a 1MB speed it should be higher then what i get. I would the F**kers back and and ask again and if they try fobbing you off again, ask to speak to a supervisor. The last person might be just be in training and trying to fob you off as they say.

BEST OF LUCK.

I'm loving the double post there.

Anyway...
damul81, when you download stuff its measured in kilobytes/megabytes. When you run a speed test and what your ISP says is measured in kilobits/megabits.

1 byte=8bits

Eg: 16Kbps=128kbps

Don't forget that the download speed will also depend on where you are downloading from.
