BT TS Get a Result

Persistence pays they say and in the case of the recent [last couple of months] deterioration in the Eircon Bitstream 3Mbps product as resold by BT - I got a result.

Since the beginning of December last I’ve been slowly working my way up the BT TS food chain. There have been countless line faults logged with Eircon, all of which resulted in ‘No fault’ reports from Eircon. After each all clear on the line it was suggested that I downgrade because my line was really only capable of getting 1Mbps. I steadfastly resisted on the basis I had been getting 2.65Mbps consistently for nearly two years previously and that Eircon had cleared the line as capable of a full 3Mbps.

I just kept repeating that I wanted the service returned to what I had been getting before.

I finally got a phone call from a BT TS manager who assured me that BT were now taking matters up at senior levels in Eircon. However, their experience in cases like mine was that Eircon never admit a fault in the Bitstream service rather I would most likely loose my BB for a day and when it returned everything would be as before.

Guess what?

Yes, I’m back to a constant 2.65Mbps DL and 0.3Mbps UL.

As for myself it was suggested to me that the DTT pilot currently been tested and broadcasting transmissions from the Clermont Carn site in County Louth could of been effecting the quaility of my 3MB BB service.
Got onto Esat TS about it and they said that yes it can affect it and yesterday an Eircom TS guy agreed also, so I sent off a mail to my local TD about it and Comreg. Got a reply back today and it's now been referred to Eircom and to the Department of Communications.

Just have to wait and see now.

Interesting conflict between the two technologies. You were lucky to get the heads up on that one. Did BT TS know about this before you asked and keep quiet?

However, I would not just sit back and wait I'd follow up directly with the Dept. of Communications.

They knew about it but never mentioned it until I brought it up, and the same goes for Eircom, so it looks like they are trying to keep it quiet.

Issues such as the one you have described fall within ComRegs remit however as the Department of Communications, Marine and Natural Resources is running the DTT Pilot, we are concerned about your situation. More information is required in order to fully investigate your problem:

• When did the problem first become apparent?
• Who is your internet service provider?
• How did you come to the conclusion that DTT was the cause of your DSL difficulties?

Answers to these questions will help us investigate your situation.

Hi all

Having worked for many years in the public service I know that as far as the Dept are concerned there is no problem unless the people are complaining loudly so anyone experiencing difficulties should make a point of copying any complaints including the detailed information Lorcan Mac Fadden asked for to the Dept. of Communications as well.

Big thumbs up to DOC & local TD Dermot Ahern and to the engineers that came out this morning . Back up to 3MB and so far so good, sort of .
My line is fine externally and internally, was getting the right download speed off Eircom FTP & http test. That got me baffled so i suggested that they try download the speedtest file from EsatBT as that was what my speed was been based on throughout the problems i was having, my speed then dropped , so God knows.
