Ok. The test works fine in all browsers we've tested except for Internet Explorer.
I've asked our programmers to have a look at it and see if they can work out why IE is being "special"

I cannot see any Start button, just slots for ISP and Speed.
I am running Opera 9.26.

Ok, so it's not working on IE or Opera ...

We need to revise the code we're using to embed the applet in the page to deal with some browsers' handling of objects

Default MySpeed problem

John,
If you are really stuck, you might try going to their site at MySpeed Internet speed test software and download the free edition called - MySpeed PC Lite. It's the same company, same test, and should give you the same speed results, and more importantly it will work with IE, etc.

Nice one dickiesam

However I notice that a US based server is selected by default which gives lower DL speed results. Therefore users should not forget to choose the London server before starting the test.

As an interim solution please use:
http://www.irishisptest.com/custompage.html

Yes it's ugly, but it should work for IE users.

Default Different fault, same result

Sorry but your fix only worked for a short time.

All I get now is a java logo for about 5 seconds and then nothing.

Have tried all browsers.
The same happens with the special link you provided

The normal test and the "special" link are both working now.

The test server wasn't restarted after a server reboot on Friday

I am impressed,
I never expected this to be fixed until after easter. The lads at BK must work all hours.

Works fine with all browsers now, well done Blacknight and many thanks

Running the Speed Test using Internet Explorer (Vista) on one computer, and Firefox (XP Professional) on another, I got a brief flash of the Java symbol, and then a square space (where the the test graph should be) with the legendary Red X in the top corner.

Then this evening, Monday 24th March, they both suddenly came on stream, and worked perfectly.

Speed test problem solved at this venue.

Hi John

BK already knows about this issue from another post

The latest version of the test is able to pull out a LOT more data, so we're going to have to give the user database a complete overhaul.

I'd also like to give you nicer graphics to look at and to show the world - it's all doable, but the programmers haven't had time yet.

So to answer your questions - yes it will get fixed, but I'm not going to make you any silly promises that I can't keep

Howfast's reply covers it

If you really need reports for your own tests email me your IP and I can try to get you a breakdown.

I can't give you an ETA on when the graphs will be working again - I was a lot more concerned with ensuring basic functionality

If you see this issue happen again, could you check which ad is showing in the right banner?

This issue has been happening quite regularly here also on several PCs when ever that SEI Energy Show 2008 ad shows in the right banner. When this ad appears, the speedtest window stops responding and my CPU usage maxes out going by the task manager. Over the past couple of days, I was unable to use the speedtest as that SEI ad was constantly coming up each time I viewed the speedtest page.

So far today it has been a combination of the Dabs and SEI ads, so if I refreshed the page and the Dabs ad shows, the speedtest runs fine. The SEI ad should hopefully no longer appear within a week as the show it's advertising ends on the 17th.

Default Pop-up ads

I've seen the issue of pop-up ads 'popping up' before. In this case they seem to be interfering with the speed test. Personally I hate them, so I use a free download of Adblock Plus from Adblock Plus: Save your time and traffic. Works great with Firefox giving nice 'clean' pages. Don't know if it works with IE. Gave up on that long ago.

What is the point of having the ad on this page if it makes it disfunctional?
Why dont they put it on the 'log on' page, surely the whole thing defeats the purpose of the ad. I did'nt notice the ad untill you mentioned it
